Does anyone else just like modern games? Post #32 in topic

Posted over 4 years ago by Silverstock – in All Pinball ‐ Last reply over 4 years ago

I have never played an EM game that held my attention long enough to drop a second coin. There are a few Solid State Pre-DMD games I liked, (Bonzai Run, High Speed, Whirlwind). But, I find that most of my time (90% or more) is spent on the more modern games like JJP's, Stern's Spike games, etc. Although, TronLE has long been my number #1 or #2 on the all-time favorite list. I think that I find great value in the additional modes, music, sound, bright lights, and overall modern feel of the game.

A lower playfield wouldn’t be necessary to represent the Upside Down... in fact it would be much better to just have the GI change the lighting (say to an odd color) and have a change in the rules / scoring. With the Stranger Things theme I think a layout like Bonzai Run with a second vertical play field in the head box would be awesome. Similar to the track that’s the upper play field, only tunnels for the upside down.

I had never heard of it so I checked out the pinball pa website. Looks like they have approx. 200+ video games and 120+ pins. If I’m ever in the area I will definitely check it out! The number of games there is almost overwhelming. Its been over a year since I have been there, but the selection is pretty excellent. They didn't have many games under 5 years old, but there are plenty of cool games like Bonzai Run that I have never been able to play before.

I grew up in Denver and remember Celebrity quite well. Use to stay with my cousin and we would play there all day. Bowling, swimming, and arcade games galore. Was never much into pinball as a kid. High school days were another story. My friends and I would drink and smoke up and if there wasn't a party we would be at the local arcade called Jerry's playing foosball, arcade games, and pinball. Favorite pin that I remember was Bonzai Run. Those were the days!

On early WPC games like Funhouse and BOP, only a small number of the total run had the diamond plate. Pat Lawlor was a big proponent of it, so some of his early games like Bonzai Run, Earthshaker, and Whirl Wind all had a small number of games produced with teh Diamond Plate. What it means now, is that the games with the coating will be less worn, and in better overall condition. Thats why if the BOP has Diamond Plate, it is worth a lot more then a non diamond plate version.

"I would pay 7 Gs for AFM but not for Pinbot." Exactly. As much as I like PinBot, I don't think any System 11 game is worth that kind of cash, regardless of the condition. In fact, the only game I can think of from that era that could possibly justify a $7,000 price tag would be a mint condition Bonzai Run. Of course, this is just my opinion. If someone really wants a mint PinBot and is willing to pay the asking price, who am I to argue? :)
