The most recent JD I got had some aftermarket spotlights installed on the slings to light up the middle playfield and it makes a big difference. Mirror blades help light the game up as well. My first JD with stock incandescents is one of the darkest games I can remember playing. Can you post a picture of this? I’m interested for JD, I think High Speed, possibly Whirlwind would benefit from a similar setup. All three seem dark to me.

So stick around late night Friday or Saturday and you should be good. Sunday is fine too. Whirlwind is in the annex room which isn’t used on Sunday at all.

Next question. The spinning disc motor is ridiculously loud. I read a bunch of posts on the subject and it seems that’s just the way it is. Most of these posts were 10 years ago. I lubed the motor shaft on top and bottom and it did nothing. I can’t believe there’s not modern fix for this? My Stern Turtles has a spinning disc that is nowhere as loud as this. Hell, the discs on Fireball, Whirlwind and Twister aren’t this grinding. Does anyone have a modern fix? Thanks!

I’m a Lawlor fan. TAF is the most memorable, but Whirlwind is on my wishlist because TAF is out of my budget and I like System 11 games. Ripley’s is a sneaky favorite of mine. Road Show and No Good Goofers are also enjoyable. TZ gets a lot of praise, but not a fan of the theme. I need to like the theme for me to pump the machine with quarters/credits.

I still vote for Banzai Run as the best System 11 game: simple yet very challenging goal oriented gameplay, great looks, insane light show, mindblowing soundtrack. On top of that, it's just a marvel of engineering. Stands out in any collection. Honorable mentions: Space Station, Swords of Fury, Taxi, Elvira, Whirlwind, Radical.

But I think Taxi ... that changes it's flourishes as it gets bigger. I go back and forth between Taxi and Whirlwind for best System 11. Both have great qualities in different ways.

They are like children....it's hard to choose a favorite. My favorite that I currently own would be a tie between Whirlwind and Earthshaker. Surprisingly, I really enjoy Pool Sharks. It's a fast game and despite not having Multi-Ball it is pretty fun. Of the ones I and my father law have owned, there's too many "favorites" but Space Station kicks ass, and I always come back to Dr. Dude. Chris[att=7869950,3648928 caption=""]

I rarely have negative comments on FS posts but your ad seems pretty inaccurate. I have seen plenty of original whirlwind machines with better looking insert artwork. What happened to the main ‘N’ and most of the ‘S’ just above the flippers. With the lack of good lighting I think that you need to rethink your statement on condition or provide some better pictures. You should also take the playfield glass off for your next round of pictures.

When you compare the pinball audience of the late 80's early 90's to todays audience, that has to be one of the best videos in the evolution of pinball. Today the majority of new sales aren't to operator's but those who want home entertainment or quick play and resale. Love that vid it speaks for how classic Whirlwind truly is!

Probably a long shot, but if anyone in the STL metro or within an hour or two has a Whirlwind they'd be interested in selling, hit me up! Not looking for anything that's "restored" or in need of a playfield swap. Project to "really nice" players condition would be preferred - a wide net, I know!
