3D printing sharing thread.... Lets better the hobby Post #6338 in topic

Thanks I don't 3D print but I have a friend that does. I guess I need to figure out how to or what I'd like as key chains for my whirlwind and rollergames. Whirlwind could be pretty straight-forward. I’m not sure what I’d do for rollergames, maybe a roller skate? I might be willing to create some key fobs. Would 2D designs be better, or are you looking mostly for 3d?

If it's like Dr dude, which it probably is since they used the same idea in other games like whirlwind, a zener diode sets the speed. A bad / open zener could make the motor will spin fast. When repairing my Dr dude I used a schematic from a different game and the mix master was violent and tossing the ball around. Found out dude used a different zener and that brought the motor to the correct speed.

My personal choice would be centaur, but whirlwind certainly has a much larger following/rating. I'm not sure if you have played both, but online gameplay can help you decide as well. It ultimately comes down to which one would you play more? You can also try to get a better price (which is exactly what I would do)

Whirlwind is a far better game. Centaur is cool, very unique art and sound - but not as fun to play long term. You lose a lot in the art package with the goofy cabinet, so if you really want a Centaur get the 1981 version and not the sequel.

Why are collections private? Post #55 in topic

I keep my collection up to date. I have had people reach out from time to time trying to buy something from my collection. Honestly, those are usually associated with strong offers as people must really want something to reach out like that. The only time I feel like having things "in my collection" hurts me is when trying to trade for something else. No... I'm trying to trade the Whirlwind... not the STTNG. You can't have it!

Solenoid not working on Whirlwind Post #1 in topic

Posted 91 days ago by floyd1977 – in Tech: Alpha-numeric ‐ Last reply 87 days ago

Everything seems to be working on my Whirlwind except the eject saucer (solenoid 5a). 5c (a flasher) works fine in test. If I ground Q31, the coil doesn't fire either (grounding Q30 for example triggers the 3-bank drop target reset). So even though the 5c flasher works, am I correct to assume that Q31 needs replacing? Thanks.

Does anyone know where these Whirlwind plastics go? I got them in the set from CPR. I don't have them anywhere in my project game. The clear one, I have no clue. For the small cloud ones, the only thing I can think of is maybe they replace the spots where there were small clear posts (often used to prevent stuck balls on top of plastics. I think forcing people to look at Perdetti/Cardona's 2.0 code would reduce the value of those remakes. I mean you don't really look at code you look at a pinball machine. Everyone has differing opinions on the 2.0 stuff. I don't like Funhouse 2 but I like Whirlwind 2. I don't like the art they did on FH but I do on WW. So it's really to each their own I guess. A lot of modern fans won't even look at a game from pre-DMD era so it's possible to say they would increase their market by doing that.

Please be Funhouse I’m on the record as saying that’ll be first. Quickly followed by Whirlwind. They’ve already converted most of the code over to Fast, and they’ve been pretty quiet in terms of updates to the 2.0 code lately. I suspect the first pins will be remakes of FH & WW with 1.0 & 2.0 code installed, auto-launchers, etc.

Seems like the obvious first 2 titles are Funhouse and Whirlwind. Pendretti already has the (kinda) original code running on the Fast boards. Also I think most of the custom parts for both machines are already available/reproduced. My guess they could turn around either title at about $7500 and turn a profit. (Based on current prices for Alien, and the lack of license).
