Players Opinion: '74 Strato-Flite vs. '69 Target Pool? Post #8 in topic

Posted over 7 years ago by Caucasian2Step – in Buying and selling advice ‐ Last reply over 7 years ago

I love both games. I disagree on Strato/Super Flite being a luck fest. That game is all about geometry. And while at first I thought it was boring, I now consider it to be a player. I own one and love it. I'd also love to have a Target Pool. I'd figure out a way to get both and have one at the office/with a friend if space is your only limiting factor. Enjoy! I also recently picked up a Super-Flite that I'm enjoying thoroughly. I think it's a pretty under-rated game. It definitely has that "bases loaded" feel when you're able to hit all of the targets successfully and rack up some specials and big points. A drain out after that is just super disappointing because you want that ball to last forever. I'm generally not a huge fan of games where major targets are not accessible from the flippers, but this one is an exception.

No Power on Williams EM Post #1 in topic

Posted over 8 years ago by Pahuffman – in EM Pinball Tech ‐ Last reply over 8 years ago

Just picked up a Williams Super-Flite. I plugged it in and got nothing. Hit the left flipper button and got nothing. All the fuses test fine. I thought it might be the switch, so I bypassed it and jumpered the switch wires together - still nothing. Here are my questions: Is there a way to test the power cord and/or transformer at least to eliminate those potential issues? Is there a main fuse I'm missing somewhere? I thought the fuses were on separate circuits, so wouldn't I at least get GI?

The LED's in those look out of place IMHO. But to each their own. I'd usually agree but going to make an exception on this due to the color palette and temp of Strato/Super Flite, which is kind of cold/frosty to start with. I bet those bumper caps look especially cool in the flesh.

Is $550 too high for Strato-Flite? Post #2 in topic

Posted over 8 years ago by pinwiztom – in EM Pinball Tech ‐ Last reply over 8 years ago

It is about a $400-500 game. $550 is not too much if it is in excellent cosmetic condition and fully working. Generic Parts are available for all EM pins (i.e. coils and flippers, pop bumpers, spot targets, leaf switches etc.) But (artwork specific) Plastics or Backglasses are harder to come by. Super Flite (2 player) might be better choice, as with fewer score reels its easier to work on. Better than average game play, relatively fast for the era.

Fastest game...(ball speed) Post #32 in topic

Posted over 10 years ago by StevenP – in All Pinball ‐ Last reply over 10 years ago

Super-Flite rocks. Tron--not so fast, and I've played one pretty fresh out of the box (when most gaes are at their fastest). One ridiculously fast game is LWJP. I only clean the pf a couple of times per year because it is too fast when cleaned. Many times I hear the ball between the flippers before I realize I've drained--that hard to follow the ball. ACDC is reasonably fast, but doesn't seem nearly as fast as LWJP (and again, I've played a couple of pretty new ACDCs). LWJP is sick fast.

Super-Flite Backglass Post #2 in topic

Posted over 10 years ago by evilzed – in Pinball parts wanted ‐ Last reply over 10 years ago

I have recently acquired a Super Flite with a very poor backglass. I have found a place called bgresto.com that scans your backglass and makes a digital print that they apply to the glass. I'm thinking that's the way I'm going to go since an actual backglass seems almost impossible to find and the price of their service seems pretty reasonable to me. You might want to check their website out.

Oh Doc did you lose your deposit on the Super-Flite? The seller was very understanding, which was nice. He'd also been very slow to respond to my offers etc. all along, so very casual. I did really like the Super-Flite though, but lack of space forced me to choose, and so I chose Space (hoho) Mission. Nice little '70s Gottlieb collection you've got there. I adore my '77 Gottlieb Bronco!

Oh Doctor, you're done for. Congratulations on the machine! Haha, I know! Thanks. I just bought a Space Mission instead of the Super-Flite, though, almost half the price and a better choice in my opinion. I LOVE the art work, as I'm a big fan of space themed stuff, and it has lots of nice features on the playfield, though it may a bit 'easy' to play with the kick out holes next the flippers. Now I just need to work out some transportation.

I would choose the So76 over the Super-Flite if they were in similar condition. Agree with Garrett - Spirit of 76 would be a great choice Thanks for the advice. I like the artwork on the Super-Flite better. Why would you choose the SO76? I've read that Gottliebs are better quality. Is that it, or do you like the gameplay better?

I've got my eye on two pinballs for sale at the moment, trying to make up my mind which one to buy. One's a Williams Super-Flite, the other's a Gottlieb Spirit of 76. I see you're a Gottlieb man. My Strato-Flite is doing a weird thing that has me more than confused. Not that it is super important but if I drop a quarter in the slot it will knock the knocker and advance the credit. If I drop another one in it just drops right through to coin box with no credit. I see the 25 cent relay firing but no credit. The really weird part is if I manually engage the relay it will add credit. It will not accept another coin until end of game. Anyone have any ideas???

EM's...Any pointy people early 70's Williams games. Not only are they ugly but 9 out of 10 of them play like complete shit. There is a reason why these games can be found for 100-200 dollars complete and working. In some cases this is true. In some cases The Kordek/Marche team made some great tables. Grand Prix Space Odyssey/ Mission (alright, not pointy... but still the same design/art team) Klondike/ Yukon Super-Flite/ Strato-Flite. And back to our regularly scheduled thread of pin-hate...
