Venom is super underrated game design Post #205 in topic

Posted 182 days ago by PersonX99 – in Stern Pinball ‐ Last reply 173 days ago

The appeal of Venom (for me) is in the unique ruleset for pinball. I already have games with fan layout that are mode based. I enjoy them. Then I realized Star Wars, a typical fan layout requires you to play with 3 buttons throughout the game in order to score big. HUGE plus to have unique game play like that. I still have Star Wars and enjoy it. I hope Venom's unique rules/gameplay is the same.

Star Wars is just great fun but yes one must fully understand how the shot multiplyer works and how to take full advantage of it. Once you get that down the game is just so much damn fun BECAUSE of how the multiplier works. Great game that does take some heat from people who either dont get it or dont like the multiplier use.

My Star Wars never did plunger - standups - left outlane either. It would go much farther left than that, usually hit the wall at the entrance to the left orbit, or sometimes the Force targets. But this varies a lot from machine to machine, and I've seen many on location that do go straight to the left outlane. When playing SW on location, I always try to short-plunge directly to the flippers to get control that way.

So..it’s just a rehash layout from Spider-Man/Ster Trek. Ugh! Spiderman had a motorized target bank with a shot behind it + a toy that moved and Star Trek had a moving ship that shot the ball back at you with a drop target and magnet. This game has nothing like that. 3 drop targets with a rubber behind it...ugh. ACDC and Star Wars took the same approach with the 3 drop target bank in the center area of the playfield. However, those games had other substantial interactive mechs in them.

That's all they could come up with, with the center shot? Drop targets are cool but not for the main area of the playfield IMO. It would have been neat if there was a shot behind it or something to reveal, that's fun. Stern Star Wars did this tool (but it actually had other interactive toys).

The new one comes with a special color version of the topper and the code update adds a mode where you need a topper. If that's true, that's BS. They can't keep up with topper demand as it is and many of the ones they make are "limited" so good luck getting one. Hell, how long has Star Wars been on the line and they only made 500 toppers.

What am I missing? Sound fidelity maybe? Sound fidelity is one aspect. Star Wars i.e. really profits from good speakers and is a whole different experience with a proper setup. Or headphones. Also some like to blast the volume like hell, so if thats the idea, also headphones. Otherwise that station is nothing but retail therapy. Honestly, the better thing to do is to connect a low latency bluetooth transmittter to the internal headphone jack and then use low latency bluetooth headphones.

I don't think anyone has modded Star Wars code since Insider Connected and v1.20 came out. Pinball Browser wasn't compatible with that new code at the time and Stern got pissed that some of us hacked Midnight Madness Multiball and they immediately removed it from all future code updates. This left us modders to just keep our v1.10 and older custom codes. I have not renewed my Pinball Browser license but am very curious to know if you can still edit SW code the same way?? This was 2 years ago.

Didn’t know a spoof was 180 degrees or had to be serious. I thought it was just a funny imitation. I was meaning a comedy of a comedy. How would YOU spoof this movie, that was a spoof of Star Wars? Yes a spoof is basically a 180 of the original. Just dont get a spoofed IP. Hell will rain down

No. A spoof of a spoof would not be Star Wars. A spoof is like 180 degress different from the original. Space balls is not serious, the spoof would have to be serious, thus Star Wars. How do you joke a joke, other than making the joke serious?
