Does anyone know of a pinball that had a ramp in the shape of a circle, when the ball was spinning on the ramp the machine made a lot of noise, is it an aircraft theme or something like that, any help? Special Force? The helicopter ramp when you get bombs would fire the pop bumper huts and make a lot of noise.

Bugs in early solid state games Post #38 in topic

Posted over 3 years ago by barakandl – in Tech: Early solid state ‐ Last reply 82 days ago

Special Force, if that counts as early SS. There is a drop target in front of the 180 ramp that awards collect weapon (advance weapon bonus). When you knock the drop target down with the ball, the collect weapon light blinks. When you knock down the target with a rocket, right extra cab button pushed, the collect weapon light does not blink yet that shot awards collect weapon either way. Pretty sure that the collect weapon light should be blinking whenever the drop target in front of the 180 ramp is down.

I did that when I moved a world challenge soccer downstairs mostly because it was so damn heavy. Took the PF out too. Bally 6803 are tall too. Hi guys, I've got a Special Force and the 3rd drop target on the left hand side wont drop when a rocket is fired. The driving transistor has been replaced along with the coil, any suggestions? Thanks

Bally's Laguna Beach Post #14 in topic

Posted over 4 years ago by bingopodcast – in EM Bingos ‐ Last reply over 4 years ago

Older games came with wooden legs from the factory. Some operators would chuck them out when metal legs became widely available because they wouldn't snap (they do bend, though, with enough force), crackle or pop. The bingos used special metal legs with an extra plate welded behind the leg to prevent twisting. Bingo wooden legs have an extra bolt in them (compared to flipper game wooden legs) to help prevent splitting near the bolt holes. Laguna Beach would have been metal legs from the factory.

I pulled out the main board and Q14 was measuring low so I replaced it with a new 2N6045 and the game didn’t blow the playfield fuse, and the game seemed to work for a cycle and I was even able to play a bit. So, I turned it on and back off and it started having the same issue and the Q14 started registering bad again. What could cause this? Maybe a bad IC chip?[att=5558199,1937118 caption=""]

I'm working on a Special Force. Everything seems to be working, but when I press the start button, the left display goes dark and flickers. And a game won't start. It's set to free play. There are three balls in the game. All of the trough switches are registering. Thanks for any ideas.

Metallica vs Deadpool. Which would you buy now? Post #4 in topic

Posted over 4 years ago by anathematize – in Buying and selling advice ‐ Last reply over 4 years ago

I feel like Metallica probably single-handedly made me a better pinball player. Great, deep, rules and a couple shots that force you to master recovery skills (graveyard, coffin). The downside is that it is a bit wood-choppy. Deadpool rules are super fun and the shots are well designed and varied. The katana ramp seems to need special attention to detail before its dialed in. At the moment I'd take Deadpool if money wasn't a factor. If it was... Metallica all day.

I got the witch off from the top of the playfield. Man, what a PITA the way the angle is for those screws in her back.. The threaded rod the witch rides on pulls out of the game with her. If you grab her below the hat (anywhere but the hat) you can gently pull her directly up and out of the game completely, nothing special to do (but remove the tube if it is on). Putting it back in is the reverse but don't force it or bend the rod.

The Special Force manual is crap and drives everyone nuts. Anyway, it says the diode is IN4140 but I'm pretty sure I can substitute a 4004. I'm posting a matrix that I found. I'm not sure why the strobe column and the rows both show two sets of wires. The cut wires at the missing slam switch are yellow and red/green as indicated but when I went to the right outlane switch they were the other colors. Should I only be concerned with switches with red/green?[att=5410554,1854332 caption=""]

Not quite, but good guess! Special Force has joined our ranks, and we're glad to have it on the squad - at least, once we fix the rusty rails and dead flipper. Picked it up for dirt cheap, with the seller even suggesting a retheme. At right: the Firepower that I picked up two weeks ago, for even cheaper, and forgot to post in this thread. This reminds me that several years ago I too bought a Special Force and Firepower, in a package deal, with the FP being super cheap. Good times. Congrats!
