How about themes in the public domain. Victor Frankenstein, the monster, Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, Van Helsing, Robin Hood, Zorro, John Carter, King Kong, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde, Hercules, Wizard of Oz, Alice, Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat etc, Captain Nemo, King Arthur, Moby Dick, Sinbad, Headless Horseman, Grendel and more. So some awesome characters available to use besides original themes. Won’t cost any licensing fees.

For sale: Sinbad (Gottlieb 1978) Post #13 in topic

Posted 59 days ago by yancy – in Pinball machines for sale ‐ Last reply 37 days ago

Mine must play easy, because I've rolled it, and I am no Bowen. Half mil very achievable, gotta focus on those extra balls. Pinside top score of 2.4 mil might've been done on a Sinbad with an aftermarket MPU, which allows EB stacking. And/or set to 5-ball play. Or maybe just the game of his life, it happens.

Sinbad is a lot of fun for the cheap. Bowen's tutorial of Sinbad is a good watch and he really seems to enjoy the challenges as 263,340 was his best score. I find it a hard game to put up a big score on or ever roll over. Pinside top score posted is 2,433,020 is way beyond reach for me.

What machines have aged well? Post #19 in topic

Posted 80 days ago by gamera9 – in All Pinball ‐ Last reply 78 days ago

Sinbad, Stars, Fish Tails, 2001, Central Park, Stern Star Trek, have aged very well in my opinion. I started playing in 1975 and most of us did not like 2 inch flipper games. 2001 and Central Park really stand out as good games now. Stars is so simple, but has the just one more time effect. Sinbad is the same.

On my Sinbad, the right bumper has it's non adhesive mylar circle curled up. This is causing any ball that falls from the top lane to not trigger it. I would really like to avoid removing it. I was thinking of trying a hair dryer to make the curl relax and fall back to the playfield. I know the most logical resolution is the remove it, but I would like to avoid that, if possible. Might give the hair dryer a try tonight.

I was so excited to play Sinbad at TPF but it wasn’t it working order. This isn’t an attempt to pump up the value of these games. Just find them a home and give games that aren’t talked about much a chance to prove themeselves, or get exposed. I’ll keep finding new games that have less than 50 reviews.

Just did this today on my Sinbad. Only issue I had was I put the new rubber on the bracket, but then couldn’t get my fingers under to hold the nut in place. So my advice would be to put the bracket back on first, then put the new runner on. I think the one I replace was original. Makes a huge difference.

Joker Poker, Stingray, STARS, Sinbad all great and don’t forget all System 1’s can be converted to chimes. EM’s are more like slot machines, whereas modern ones are like watching a Netflix show. I have a 1978 Sinbad. Just recently it occasionally takes an extra attempt to get the ball from the drain to the starting lane. Fairly random - maybe 1 out of 15 takes an extra try. It's typically not an issue, but if does that on a chance ball (ball drained within 5 seconds), it counts as your attempt which is a bummer. Any advice as to how to diagnose and correct?

I'm usually on Long Island, but will be in Northeastern PA for the next two weeks. I'd love to come home with a pin as a souvenir. Looking for an early solid state with non-standard flippers (Harlem, Sinbad, Countdown, Blackjack, etc) or one that plays hard/fast (Stars, Meteor, etc). ..or a Steve Richie...Stern Star Trek, No Fear, Black Knight 2k, or even Rollergames.

What’s a decent fully working sinbad and also stern Dracula worth? I would say $2500 for the Sinbad and $2000 for the Dracula. Both are super fun games in my opinion.

You're singing my song! A good playing Genie is so much fun (though a sad-playing Genie is really annoying) Sinbad is one of my favourite games of the early SS era. Those Pascal replacement boards really turned me around on all of the early Gottlieb SS titles. Sinbad is pure gold. I am a trap style player and those scissor flippers just don’t allow for me to catch and shoot. I also threw a ceramic power ball in there because I apparently like my game times under 30 seconds.

Just got my first machine, Sinbad. I remember going and seeing the movie when I was kid. I was a little anxious getting it all put back together as my experience is just a wee bit above zero. The guy I bought it from had about 20 machines in his basement. I had to stop myself from asking about other machines. [quoted image][quoted image][quoted image] Congrats! That is a nice looking Sinbad, fun machine.

Here’s an example with my Sinbad glass. Custom wooden frame and actual 555 lamps lit from behind it on a back board. (No Christmas lights), wanted it to look as close as possible to the real thing. Ran it off a 6 volt output transformer and the lamps look amazing. I took a picture from the side as you can see a lamp through the blue display window. [att=7630790,3440221 caption=""][att=7630790,3440222 caption=""][att=7630790,3440223 caption=""]

Sinbad is a fantastic game. I wouldn't get hung up on finding the EM version, the SS is great. I do not think Sinbad EM is THAT hard to find I do have the EM version, and I have many pins with much lower production numbers, but the Sinbad I have is the only one I came across. Also Hot Tip. I've had a bunch of multiple low production pins, but never cross paths with a Hot Tip which I've heard good things about..

Sinbad is a fantastic game. I wouldn't get hung up on finding the EM version, the SS is great. I do not think Sinbad EM is THAT hard to find - between the 4 player and the Eye of the Tiger 2 player EM they made 1800 of them. Like I said though, it's not really a "spinner" game; yeah there's a spinner there but there's literally no reason to shoot at it.
