Check it out. Royal Guard has the most bang for the buck. People hate the art package but for 300-800 dollars (depending on condition) You can't go wrong. This game kicks everyone's ass in a fun way in tournaments and has that one more game feel. When you get that one in 20 games higher score you walk away feeling accomplished. I only sold mine because i needed quick money for another machine and was in a quick bind to get it. One of these days I will own another. I regret selling mine.

Looking on CL, there's a Royal Guard for $700, a Straight Flush for $1000, a Kings of Steel for $800, and a Black Pyramid for $1000. Straight Flush seems interesting but I'd want to talk him down. Same with Black Pyramid. Royal Guard looks a little bare on the playfield and Kings of Steel is a one trick pony. I had a Royal Guard for awhile. I didn't really plan to keep it but it was way more fun than I anticipated. Very challenging game. Now I miss it.

Special awarded for ball drain down the side = FAIL The designers couldn't find a place for a target, a roll over, something, any damn thing that rewards you actually making a shot???? geez! You must hate games like Royal Guard that award SIGNIFICANT points for draining down a lit outlane, to the point where deliberately draining could actually be a competitive strategy

Bank-A-Ball Coin Door Question Post #6 in topic

Posted over 9 years ago by DirtFlipper – in EM Pinball Tech ‐ Last reply over 9 years ago

Gottlieb painted the coin door strike plate to match the cabinet up through about Royal Guard, then switched to the unpainted plate with Spin Wheel or so. The 'v' is to help divert the returned coin, and should be at the back. There's a small 'lip' on the front of that piece that should stick through the coin door instead.

I'm looking to buy an EM Gottlieb parts game from the 60s or 70s if anyone has an old one sitting around collecting dust. Thanks! I find it really difficult to part one out. Bought that Royal guard complete cabinet less head for $50, fully intending to part it...... but ended up not having the heart to do it... it was too nice. It's almost fully working now.... should have it done before next year I hope.

Royal Guard Swing Target Part Post #1 in topic

Posted over 9 years ago by Straight_Shooter – in EM Pinball Tech ‐ Last reply over 9 years ago

I'm trying to replace the fiberboard piece on the top section of a Royal Guard swing target unit. This is not the piece that connects the 2 solenoids. The wear causes the targets to not be exactly in front of the switch most of the time. I have the blank fiberboard from Pinball Resource that needs to be cut & drilled. Any suggestions, exact measurements and/or a template would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

+1 get a schematic from PBR & follow the wiring back into a spot where you can tell what the color code is, usually you will need to cut the cat gut to get into a bundle to find something unfaded if the back has been off of it for a long time. Be sure to compare switch configuration with the as they are NOT all the same - the 10's & 1,000's reels should have the same switches. I went thru this nonsense with my Royal guard project.
