Game serial # and cabinet # non match Post #1 in topic

Posted over 6 years ago by Rufus – in Restoration questions ‐ Last reply over 5 years ago

Not a big deal but my Royal Guard serial number is 035266 and the cabinet is 64870. The cabinet graphics don't match the game and I would like to redo the cabinet so it matches. I know what the Royal Guard is suppose to look like and was wondering is there anywhere I can go and get the specifics. As to size of the blue balls (I here that's painful) and where on the cabinet? The red and blue lines and the sizes in length and width? Anything would help, Thanks

Hey all, My Royal guard machine is making a very loud hum. I isolated the problem to the unit (step unit?) in the back head. Pulled the cover off and solenoid was very very hot. Would this be a open relay somewhere? I'm new to working on pinball machines and reading the schematics. I own 5 Wedgeheads and have done some minor repair/ fixes and love tinkering on old equipment. Thanks, Jeff [att=4224335,1186659 caption="image (resized).jpg"]

Pinballer Please start a new thread for each machine in order to help others with the same problem in the future. As far as your problems, start with the basics. Verify your score reels are at zero and the score reel switches are set properly. This is most likely the problem on Liberty Bell. Not sure on Royal Guard. The machine is confused due to a switch in the wrong position.

Royal Guard Target Bank Problem Post #2 in topic

Posted over 7 years ago by gottguy – in EM Pinball Tech ‐ Last reply over 7 years ago

I have a Royal Guard and no, this should not be happening. Make sure the switch contacts are clean and adjusted to make contact flatly. If it still happens, take a look at the relays that they trip, perhaps the activator plates were improperly lubricated or are dirty and have become sticky. My targets never miss a beat. I did have to fabricate a new bakelite linkage that moves them, due to elongation of the mount holes. The 100 point bell on mine is crazy loud, how about yours?

How does that even happen? I got the main cab but misplaced the brains of the operation over the last 30 years. It happens. I bought just the lower 1/2 of a really nice Royal Guard. Once I got it home I could see evidence of where it had been dropped & the head had to have been just destroyed. The nails holding the pedestal were bent!

The next step would be to totally rewire the head. I know of a couple of people that have taken that effort on multiple times. Might not be as hard as you think being a wedgehead. Yeah. I pretty much did that with a Headless Royal guard a while back. Tedious work at best.

Best drop target EMs? Post #59 in topic

Posted over 7 years ago by AlexF – in EM Pinball Hangout ‐ Last reply over 7 years ago

One of my favorite target games was Royal Guard. Probably not what you had in mind. Anyway for a more traditional Gottlieb drop target game I enjoyed Pop-A-Card, Lucky Hand and Pro Pool. For Williams, Teachers Pet was excellent. It's fun how dropping a target wasn't the only objective. Depending on the goal you can also raise them during the ball in play.

Needed: Gottlieb Solar City Wiper Assembly Post #7 in topic

Posted over 8 years ago by dasvis – in EM Pinball Tech ‐ Last reply over 8 years ago

Good call Darcy. I would give Steve at Pinball Resource a call as I do not see anything on eBay right now that would work unless once again someone here has a whole unit you can swap out. A Target Alpha/Canada Dry would be the same Bonus Unit. These are the part #'s you need: Bonus Unit Gear and Shaft: A-16154 Wiper: B-17378 I would take a browse thru the Gottlieb parts catalog, I would bet that there are a few machines that use the same unit. Went thru the same thing with my Royal Guard project.

Those 1 point bells that work off the 0-9 unit just don't work very well. They don't have much volume or a good sound to them. I removed the one on my Royal Guard and instead I bought a bell assembly from PBR and wired that in for the 0-9 unit. Much better.
