Sorry to disagree with those excellent pinsiders who suggest adjusting every switch, but this forum is full of posts from people who tried shotgun cleaning or adjustments, and caused more problems than they were originally trying to solve. Looks a bit rough (no glass, no legs and just a few poorly lit pictures), but maybe good for parts if you are in the area. $200 BIN or Make Offer. https://www.ebay.com/itm/314620265186

Hi All, I just picked up a Stern Rawhide. Really a CC machine, but labelled Stern. There are a few issues, I've fixed one, that was associated with a score motor switch (yes, of course the most difficult one to reach). Moving on to the next two issues. 1) The score motor continually runs upon game over. 2) 10 pt. switches don't score. The score reels have some typical CC problems, I'll attack those later......nothing like cleaning up 20 score reels, arg! any thoughts? Thanks

When I start a game on my Stern's rawhide the ball kick-out doesn't activate, it triggers the out hole relay, puts it on ball 2, then kicks out the ball and plays normally. Why would it not be kicking out for ball 1 ? The schematic makes it look like the out hole relay fires the kickout, but that doesn't fire at the start of a new game. I expect something needs cleaning or adjustment on the scoring motor. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

My Rawhide by Stern has a loud buzzing relay once each new ball in play is shot. It seems that the "ball index relay" is buzzing. I took a picture of the schematic and the noisy relay. I have cleaned the scoring solenoids (with plungers). This one is closed (with no plunger). Anything I should try? I can mute the buzz by pressing the frame. The frame is tight. Okay, I think i found the issue. See photo. One of these two screws was absent. Both screws need to be present and snug to hold the scoring reel mechanism still. Being loose allowed for the reel to over run it's intended contact position. My 2nd question was if anyone knows how to determine if a Rawhide is From Stern or Chicago Coin. Is there a factory date stamped anywhere or serial number to decipher? [att=6888455,2850911 caption=""]

Rawhide Reset Issue Post #10 in topic

Posted over 2 years ago by PinballHammer – in EM Pinball Tech ‐ Last reply over 2 years ago

Stern's Rawhide machine is properly resetting the score reels, however they sometimes stick at random numbers and need an extra kick or two to switch. I have been cleaning some of the reels, but even then they will still stick sometimes. Could that be a symptom of their age/wear, or is there something I should check out to make them switch 100% of the time on each impulse? Could it be a weak solenoid? Or maybe a power supply issue(short)? Any help is appreciated. Thank you for your opinions.

Rawhide Reset Issue Post #1 in topic

Posted over 2 years ago by PinballHammer – in EM Pinball Tech ‐ Last reply over 2 years ago

My Stern Rawhide machine won't start a game after it starts to reset the score wheels. Even if they are manually set to zero, it continues to fire the score reset relays and won't start the game. Which contacts would I need to check to make sure that the score wheels are actually going to zero, and the signal is being properly sent to start the game? I have added a picture of a score reel(I am cleaning each one). Thank you in advance for any suggestions! [att=6806366,2781319 caption=""]

#6 - 2-1/4” machine screws work well without having to trim them. Hard to find specific length though and it looks like my order link from Bolt Dropper is dead. 2-1/2 and some super champs to trim will work. Back off topic… You are right. Stern Pinball was the first pinball after CC. #rawhide/#Stampede and #disco were all before #pinball, however Pinball was the first solid state (though also released as an EM).

The ones on Grand Prix (and others like Triple Action, not to be confused with Triple Strike) are not as wide. Stampede/Rawhide does not have drops, but does have some custom wider targets that look like they should be drops.

Looks like Stern Pinball and Stern Nine Ball are the only pins that would need these. Same as grand Prix and all those other Williams em s that use them? Maybe not high demand but lots of possible sources. Does stampede/rawhide use them too i forget what the pf is like on those.

Stern Stampede ruleset? Post #5 in topic

Posted over 3 years ago by pinball_happy – in EM Pinball Hangout ‐ Last reply over 3 years ago

It sounds like your game is behaving properly It’s not behaving at all at the moment, since it’s in pieces :kidding: Ok it’s good to know that the feature lites are semi-random. That makes sense. If you ever decide to stream your Rawhide again, please let me know! I’d love to see it in action.

I own Rawhide but don’t have immediate access to it. I remember there is a stepper under the playfield that tries to make some of the awards random but ultimately there is a pattern. I did a live stream of this being played last winter unfortunately I don’t think I have it anymore. It sounds like your game is behaving properly

I had trouble with the resolution too. Don't know why it renders at two different resolutions. Your Reset relay circuit is very similar to the Rawhide circuit: [att=6460566,2534640 caption=""] It could be one of the Score Motor or other switches but I'd still suspect the Score Reel zero position wipers.

Posted over 4 years ago by DCP – in All Pinball ‐ Last reply today

Early in "Blue Collar", Richard Pryor, Harvey Keitel, Yaphet Kotto, and Ed Begley Jr. are in a bar, and in the background are three pins. One is a solid state Night Rider. The other two are hard to make out, but the second is a wedge head of some sort. Seven years after your post, here's a screenshot...Bally Night Rider, Gottlieb Big Hit, and Stern's Rawhide. ;-) Better late than never! [att=5750297,2059339 caption=""]
