What’s the oldest pinball you enjoy? Post #5 in topic

Really enjoyed #Kismet when it was at Lyons Classic Pinball. Really fun and challenging for a 1961 stubby flipper game. It was designed by Steve Kordek, who deeply understood how pinball is supposed to work. I also like Gottlieb #Seven-Seas from 1960. A very snappy, fast-playing woodrail with a good layout and artwork (but watch out for the gobble holes!).

Funny, too, how it had been there a while, but for me it was an insta-buy! Kismet?

Who Designed Aztec? Post #16 in topic

Posted over 8 years ago by o-din – in Bally/Williams ‐ Last reply over 8 years ago

Keep in mind, just cause a game looks like a game don't mean any particular designer had anything to do with it. No doubt about that. Compare the layout of Magic Clock designed by Harry Mabs in 1960 to Kismet designed by Steve Kordek in 1961. I think they all worked together and shared ideas back in the day and if a layout was good, no reason it couldn't be re used or re purposed. I played 3 coins when it was new in a local amusement park arcade in 1962. Compared to others games in the arcade (picnic, Williams reserve, kismet, freedom 7, big casino, and others), three coins always took my nickels and dimes much faster than the others. It was a pretty tough playing game to me.

Posted over 9 years ago by wtatumjr – in EM Pinball Hangout ‐ Last reply over 9 years ago

Thanks for the guesses. Kismet is pretty close - same style of game. But think of a scoring wheel mounted low under the playfield so you only saw one or so numbers. You could advance the reel by hitting a target and then every time you hit a pop it would register those points. I think the scale went from 5 to 50 points. I remember this because the coil advancing the reel went bad so I replaced with the extra game kicker coil.
