STREET LEVEL GOTLIEB WHAT WAS IT? Let me get you the most common google answer "Street level" games were an experiment by Gottlieb towards designing a simplier, single level (no ramps), slightly smaller and cheaper game. They did not sell very well, and only six models where made. I have owned my fair share of Freddies and SMB and Black hole and haunted house. Sterns boardset by far is far FAR FAR superior to anything we have seen to date.

The game that immediately came to mind reading this was Haunted House. Wide body so it feels slow, and the ball is also in the open all the time except for when you get to the lower playfield... Not sure if that part would be confusing or interesting for your son. Someone else recommended Black Hole, which has a similar feel, but I also think its brutally difficult for a kid (ball drains from the lower playfield if all drops aren't hit).

How much pinball did you play as a kid? Post #68 in topic

Posted over 11 years ago by Betelgeuse – in All Pinball ‐ Last reply over 11 years ago

... 80's, but I didn't play it much as Nintendo had just come out. I vaguely remember playing Haunted House at a bar my aunt worked at. I started going to arcades in the mid 80's as ... 2 and I spent enough time on those fighting games that I didn't even notice. In 2006 I bought a house and quickly put a handful of vids in the basement. When I told my dad, he came ... up driving 4 hrs each way and it seemed almost magical when I got it in the house. I was hooked. A few months later, I was buying that Twilight Zone!

Black Hole or Haunted House? Post #1 in topic

Posted over 11 years ago by jeffgoldstein2 – in Buying and selling advice ‐ Last reply over 6 years ago

I recently been playing a bunch of Black Hole on IPAD version they released and really enjoy it and now I want to buy an 80's game to go in my collection. I love the lower playfield and was curious which machine you would pick up. Haunted House or Black Hole. They both seem similar with the lower playfield idea. I have never played Haunted House though. Any input would help! Thanks!

Cyclone is a fun game to play a few times, but any of those 80's games with the progressive jackpots are just completely annoying to own. If you have the greatest game of your life but the jackpot is low you will not outscore a terrible game where you hit a big jackpot. This is so annoying that I sold my Cyclone and Bad Cats a decade ago and probably will never own another game with a progressive jackpot. Haunted House all the way.

I've owned Medusa, Flash Gordon and Seawitch and all are great. +1 EBD, Haunted House is fun, Star Gazer I played last Denver show, just awesome. Flash has to be there as well, although there aren't many pins with uglier "traditional" artwork. I've also played Laser Cue, very underrated. Maybe if the pool players had been women instead....

How much do you play – add your statistics here. Post #39 in topic

Posted over 11 years ago by Finrod – in Playing tips ‐ Last reply over 11 years ago

Depends on the game. If I'm playing my Black Knight 2000, one game a day is enough, since one game can take me 15-20 minutes or more. If I'm playing Sorcerer instead, I can play 7-8 games in the same amount of time. Swords of Fury, 1-3 games. Haunted House and Laser Cue, usually 2-5.

Haunted House is a must on this list, and not just because I own one. I played a lot of Cyclone back in the day, great machine for beginners to learn on. I'll put in a good word for Laser Cue, a wickedly fast Williams machine from 1984, though I'm admittedly biased since I own one. I also played a lot of Laser Ball, a widebody from 1979, back in the day.

Since I haven't seen any of Black Knight 2000, Haunted House, or Swords of Fury on location in well over a decade, and don't expect to, I'd still have my machines even if there were pinball machines in good condition nearby.

Posted over 11 years ago by vid1900 – in Buying and selling advice ‐ Last reply over 11 years ago

No good estimates, but Haunted House now has a speech & multiball mod, so expect demand and prices to rise. BOP has an upcoming DMD mod that gives it deep rules great animations so expect higher prices on this already popular title. Xenon had a little price bump when repro playfields were available, but now you could probably expect just the normal pinflation.

Posted over 11 years ago by Finrod – in All Pinball ‐ Last reply over 11 years ago

I'm about the same age; when I was looking to buy a house 3-4 years ago, part of what I was looking for was a house that had room for my pins plus a way to get them in and ... for 5 pins (I had 4) and easy basement entry. Of course, just months after moving in I found a Haunted House for sale only 10 miles away, so that room for an extra machine didn't last ... it hadn't been for the basement entry I never would have gotten that HH into my house. Having an appliance dolly also helps lots.

+1 You could buy this play it for a year then sell it for a 500 loss and pick up a TH later. If Jacks better theme were hitting the market this would not be a 8k LE IMO. If Jacks TH was soaking up the hobby money stern couldnt demand the Top$$ again IMO. So the other question is if Woz was TH or Haunted House ....would Stern sell these LE's for 8k or $6500. That being said I am still a player on this one and just waiting for a quote.
