Gottlieb System 1 Genie Knocker Weak Post #1 in topic

Posted 6 days ago by Genieye – in Tech: Early solid state ‐ Last reply 6 days ago

Hello all, I have my Genie finally playing like a champ for those that followed my long journey to get it right. The previous owner had taken out the knocker. I found all the pieces so put it all together. When I run a coil test the coil fires but its very weak. Instead of a knock its barely noticeable. It has a A 5195 coil. I looked at many photos online and feel I have it together right. Like many things it is probably something simple. Thanks to anyone who can help.[att=5466795,1887116 caption=""]

First 2 are eddy switches and the third a wiregate at the end of the mini playfield. When completed next thing is the Genie multiball hatch. After that the Genie himself. So enough time to spend next few weeks. Thanks for watching.[att=5464429,1885875 caption=""][att=5464429,1885873 caption=""]

Then plan is for them to show off the work they've done and get "real world" feedback on the game. Also might have another one there, gotta see what's finished up and ready by that point. Was the other board that you took out U4 chip in good working condition? The schematics would be really helpful in this case showing what IC controls those coils that are locking on. Note.. not all system 1 games have cpu controlled coils only a few and Genie is one of them that has cpu controlled coils. Quick question are the ground mods done on your game? Did this problem just occur? Did you test the ohms for them coils and diodes on those coils with meter?

Genie is one of the system 1 games that does not have any under the PF transistors. I do have a logic probe if you can help guide me on what to test. If this helps, with the 25 volts disconnected from the transformer, the MPU plays and scores perfectly fine. Sounds play, switches score, displays all work, just no coils of course.

GOTTLIEB CIrcus...I do own Genie and have the oppertunity to buy Circus. When looking on it it looks really similar to genie wich makes me hesitat. So is it much like Genie or is it a go for it? Circus is somewhat similar to genie, but seems to have a little better shots/coding- the biggest difference is that it let's you play it, there's not a bunch of SDTM drains like on Genie

I have a Circus and I love it, great shots, sounds are of the time but I do like the little calliope ditties, and offers a good amount of shot variety. I've heard others say it's similar to Genie and to be honest I don't get it other than some similarities in PF layout. IMHO they play completely different. Circus is super wide with the PF area damn near a full 3 inches wider but with all that extra space it still play fast and loses no flow. I will never get rid of my Gottlieb super wide bodies.

Hello, I have my Genie in pretty good operating condition but the lower right pop bumper does not fire. It is a head scratcher as I do not see a coil for that?? I checked and adjusted the switch but nothing. Which coil operates that and any idea why it would not be working? Thanks I appreciate anyone's help. Do you mean the right slingshot? From looking at a genie playfield there’s a pop bumper on the lower left

Genie Sound Board Replaced - No Sound - Photos Post #4 in topic

Posted 87 days ago by Tuukka – in Restoration questions ‐ Last reply 87 days ago

The 1. generation sound board was a three tone board with 555 chips. Those pictured are both 2nd gen, but looks like someone removed the dip switch from Genie board. Board will work without switches, only changing between two different sound modes and setting attract sound on/off is not possible. Maybe new capacitors could help. Also check/replace the 4 rectifier diodes.
