DIY: 'LISY', a replacement MPU for Gottlieb, Bally & Stern Post #1368 in topic

Posted yesterday by pb456 – in Tech: Early solid state ‐ Last reply today

Having a weird display issue with 1.31 PCBs on a Bally Frontier. All displays are off until I take off and put the furthest right jumper (left block) back on. Then the display is only on for about 5 seconds. Taking the jumper off and putting it back on does the same thing, all displays. I was thinking a solder bridge perhaps or bad solder joint, but maybe it's not that? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1q9KzWJCWDNGhrNUsf_IorLjOxBaaEl2y/view?usp=sharing

Posted 77 days ago by Quench – in Tech: Early solid state ‐ Last reply 77 days ago

Oh, that's not code, it's data. $09, $09, $09, $09, $09, $09, $00, $09 '99999909' Haven't checked what the first $09 on the right is for but the remainder leaves "9999990". The previous gen -35 OS has something like this where that data is used as a reference threshold score to test against if the player has rolled their score over. However Xenon, Skateball and Frontier which use this -40 OS do not reference that code at all... They instead jump out and handle it in the U2 game ROM.

I am going the opposite... Digging more and more late 70's and early 80's games. System 11 are great, but I get bored with those quicker than I do a late EM or early solid state. Keep some modern games around for the long play, deep rule game. Love having a brutal, quick game or 10 on Stars or Frontier.

Makes me nostalgic for when things didn’t need to be a license to get people’s attention. You went to Frontier Land not Star Wars Land back then. Now you got people trying to defend Scooby-Doo like it’s not a childish theme. First off IT IS, second and more importantly why is that a bad thing? You all really suck for not buying Houdini and Oktoberfest is what I’m really trying to say here.

Centaur confirmed as the next haggis remake Post #499 in topic

Besides EBD, I think the best non-licensed classic Ballys are probably Skateball and Viking. Maybe Frontier. I bet they'll do Paragon because people go nuts for it. But none of these are huge value games to my knowledge.

EBD & Medusa seem likely for 3 & 4. FG is amazing, but way too brutal for mere mortals. Frontier and Embryon have potential. What an epic era. Frontier is a fun shooter with a great art package, with Haggis 2.0 audio and rules would be sweet. I was actually thinking of Xenon over Embryon. All would be awesome with the Haggis treatment :) [att=7658068,3464121 caption=""]

Eight Ball Deluxe is cool and I enjoyed playing so much in the mid 80's. I logical choice for Haggis to remake, Universal theme. Even with Marty's expanded rule set I think that a remake of EBD will play a little slow for me these days. My preference over EBD would be Flash Gordon, I can only guess it may be a tough call with licencing ???[quoted image] EBD & Medusa seem likely for 3 & 4. Maybe only one artifact per mode played and once ff played, reset them all I always thought the artifact awards were very well done; completing search the galaxy in order should still give 2 and not one as it can be a struggle to do them in order, and you may fail and get zero when trying to get two so there is a good risk/reward there. I would not want to do away with the larger awards from completing multiple sets of artifacts either by resetting them after the first Final Frontier.

Give a timer bonus if you complete one million for each second left. Give a completion bonus too. Also maybe if you get Klingon help reward that as well.... And maybe a bonus for doing them in order. Also handing out artifacts is a great way to get a super bonus on the final frontier which dwarfs everything else in the game except maybe Q shots during multiball. Maybe only one artifact per mode played and once ff played, reset them all.

Looking to buy an early solid state, Paragon, Future Spa, Alien Poker, Alien Star, Big Game, Barracora, Nitro Ground Shaker, Frontier, Black Hole are the main things I'd consider. Or a couple system 11s, Fire and Rollergames on the watch list too. Looking to pay cash since I don't really have anything to trade right now, I have a Party Zone I'm willing to let go of but everything else in my collection is a keep. Thanks! Edit: Didn't have it in a list but interested in a Jackbot too!
