@pinballdaveh: I checked those 5 switches and didn't help. BUT, I noticed the outhole relay was being held only intermittently. It would hold for one 180 turn and then flicker for the next. I went back to a much earlier post that you sent me about the Outhole relay and I cleaned and regapped the 8C score motor switch and now my game works perfectly!! So thank you!! Now I can finally focus on things like a pop bumper that doesn't work, broken flipper, etc. Again, thank you!

if the game doesn't HAVE dimming effects, yes, no difference. You know better than this. :D The LedOCD board simulates an incandescent filament's warmup-cooldown ramp that LEDs don't have. So a flashing lamp on LED is a harsh instant on-off-on-off, where as with LedOCD, the brighteness (quickly) ramps up and down - not nearly as harsh. For GIOCD, unless the GI is dimmed, you won't really see a difference. (It WILL get rid of the AC flicker, but a lot of people can't see this flicker anyways..)

Out of curiosity. What causes lights in the backbox of older pinball machines to flicker when the flippers are pressed? I'm quite sure it's a normal thing for older games to do that. It happens on my 1979 Magic. It's not a issue as you don't realize unless you're looking. The backbox, GI, and under the playfield have all been switched to LEDs. I'm using the siegecraft boards so I could put LEDs into it to save power draw. It is only the back box that does the very quick flicker with each flip.

    3. When in display driver model test mode some of the control lights dimly flash while the displays correctly cycle 111111-999999. This is not a fault. It's a 'feature' of the display test. The display test code happens to touch the lamp information in memory which results in this intermittent flicker of some controlled lamps when the displays are updated with the next number sequence. This was so Bally could save two bytes of ROM space.. BTW well done fixing it with @vec-tor help.

It's not a GI light. It's a controlled lamp, like a Player light. Also I would use solder. That way it doesn't pop off and short somewhere during the backbox's open/close action. Yea you’re right. I knew it was for a control lamp, but for some reason I was thinking the board used a GI lamp for either voltage or stabilizing the load so it wouldn’t flicker. Had a brain fart sorry.

The yopps require you to remove (desolder) every lamp socket and replace (desolder) a yopp light in its place. I just want to make sure you know what you are getting yourself into based on a couple guys saying here get this instead of the no flicker adapters and typical bulbs. The no flicker adapters are simple to install and work great. That's a very reasonable way to go.

U14 needs to be the 4049UB type or else the zero cross interrupt has problems which makes some lamps flicker. Not to bump an old thread, but I just wanted to say thanks! I just grabbed a FBC that was having this flicker issue, updated U14 to a CD4049UBE from the 4049B and it works flawlessly

Eight Ball Deluxe Owner Club & Restorations Guests Welcome As Well Post #5544 in topic

Installed LED's in my EBD and the ones connected to the lamp driver board flicker. The lamps connected to the Aux. Lamp board do not flicker (assume it's because that board uses different SCR's). So I connected 470 ohm resistors from each pin on J1 lamp board to ground. Now, the lamps with the resistors are on dimly all the time. They even seem to flicker a little. Shouldn't the resistors have corrected the flicker problem?

Pin Bot lamp issue Post #2 in topic

Posted 86 days ago by Blackbeard – in Tech: Alpha-numeric ‐ Last reply 86 days ago

I know you mentioned you resoldered connector headers, but did you try pushing in that row’s wire more firmly into its connector? I’ve fixed more lamp and switch issues this way. Sometimes those wires appear good in the connector, but need pushed in a bit better. With the game on, locate the wire on its moles connector, and press/wiggle it a bit with your finger (no metal here) to see if you get a flicker. Lowering the backbox to transport pin sometimes pulls them a bit loose.

The breadboards, wire wrap posts, large double sided edge connector slots, apron display glass...all that looks like mid-70s hardware. Engineering prototype of some sort? Maybe Bally? I'm not quite sure without a better photo, but it looks like that playfield has a display glass similar to what in their Flicker SS prototype. https://www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=5103&picno=28911 Are there any chips or other components on the breadboards besides wire wrap posts and wire?

Purchased a 1975 Bally Flicker this weekend that was fully working before moving it. After setting it up at my place I'm having a few issues and am struggling to find out what went wrong, especially since I don't have the schematics. #1 No GI lighting on the playfield but they flicker (pun not intended) as coils are fired #2 No playfield insert lights #3 Ball launch and left flipper coils don't work Otherwise, the game resets and starts a game just fine.
