Between Wade Krauss, Shay, Steve at PBR and Ron - I'm North of $2K into an El Dorado that I don't even own yet. Do I care? Not a damn bit. Cause I love that game and when I do get one, I want to go as tits as I possibly can on it. And if I ever sell it, well it's not like I don't know that I'll take a bath ahead of time. Investments is for my 401K, not my pinball collection.

El Dorado Club? Post #152 in topic

Posted 163 days ago by o-din – in EM Pinball Hangout ‐ Last reply 5 days ago

Anybody have a use for this? It came with my El Dorado, but the original cleaned up nicely and is sitting at my brother's house anyway. It is grade "A". Not sure if they are still available or not. Or will be. Somebody can clue me in though. Price could be adjusted accordingly. If not, I figure with the money I keep throwing at this hobby, I can do $1100 including shipping to anywhere in the USA.[att=7818217,3608338 caption=""]

Do any of you guys only collect wedgeheads and don’t have any other pinball machines? I know Vic Camp has a basement full of them that looks amazing. If I’m being honest, I play my El Dorado and Jacks Open more often than my Fireball, Flight 2000, and High Speed. I’m wondering if I would be totally content just collecting wedgeheads and getting rid of my solid state machines?

Unless you have an emotional attachment to that game that overrides price reality, pass. For that money you could buy a much more collectible Gottlieb EM like El Dorado, Abra, C37, or others in restored or close condition. Low production numbers means it didn't sell well in that era, hence not good. Go to Pinfest next May in Allentown PA with that 4K and play a bunch of games before deciding.

Posted 9 months ago by DanMarino – in All Pinball ‐ Last reply 9 months ago

I’ll go old school and pick Gottlieb’s El Dorado. The more I play pinball, the more I realize I like asymmetrical playfields with an open center. Playfields with center blocks just aren’t as much fun. El Dorado has 4 flippers and 15 drop targets. The bottom 5 drops can be hit by 2 flippers, so that’s 10 shots. The top 10 drops can be hit by 4 flippers, so that’s another 40 shots. So this machine has 50 possible shots as a minimum. Always something to shoot for and 4 flippers means more fun.

Just avoid the high priced titles such as El Dorado, just get a target alpha or solar city instead of you like that layout I disagree with this. I’m only buying A list EM titles. These are the ones that are most likely to hold their value. Plus, everyone knows El Dorado and Gold Strike are way more fun than Target Alpha/Solar City. The price is lower on those for a reason. I do agree that EMs are the best value in pinball.

Also, if someone is just getting into the hobby, it’s a great time to buy EM’s! The classics are about the same price if not less than they were even 10 years ago. It’s kinda crazy, as some of these EM’s are actually more fun to play than some of the early SS machines for a fraction of the cost! I’d say build your EM collection right now, most games will be less than $1000. Just avoid the high priced titles such as El Dorado, just get a target alpha or solar city instead of you like that layout

I noticed two - but for other eras's, they have some great machines. Cheers Tom Thanks. I see 4 EM's per pinballmap: Extra Inning (Gottlieb, 1971) Aladdin's Castle (Bally, 1975) El Dorado (Gottlieb, 1975) Stampede (Stern, 1977) So I think I'll leave it on the list for now...

I’m on the lookout for back glasses for El Dorado, Jacks Open, Flight 2000, and Time Zone that might be better than what I currently have. Also interested in a Flight 2000 playfield that has a better planet than mine. Shay sells the repro El Dorado glass. Jeff Moorehead is now bringing them to shows. Call Steve at Mayfair for the rest, he'll be there.

This is a tough one. I love Fireball and El Dorado, but I also love spinners. Yet drop targets and zipper flippers are so fun. 1. El Dorado 2. Fireball 3. Jacks Open 4. Old Chicago 5. Card Whiz / Royal Flush I prefer target alpha over El dorado, but that's a great choice. Overall, I would probably pick gottlieb wizard (the rare add-a-ball version of abra-ca-dabra) Joker poker is pretty great too. Great question...but tough to answer. I'm glad I don't have to pick just one.

Target Alpha. One of the best. Solar City, Target Alpha, great drop target games. Great games but he's looking for a game with a spinner as well. But the OP shouldn't limit himself to just games with all these features. Bally Freedom fits the bill perfectly, but El Dorado and it's many clones (see above) are much better playing games even though they don't have a spinner.

Its almost like its 2 different cultures. To me, EM pinball is a totally different category than all other pinball. I love EM (mostly Gottlieb) games. I have been collecting and restoring them a long time. Em's can be both challenging and simplistic at the same time. You have to be willing to work on your games. But as a pinball enthusiast I respect both cultures of pinball. For me there is a desire to collect both New and Em games. El Dorado, Atlantis, Sky Jump are favorite EM's of all time.

Love my El Dorado. Its my favorite EM of all time. I've had mine for many years and it will NEVER leave. I also have a WK playfield to put in mine, although original playfield is pretty good too with little wear. I would love to have a Gold Strike too, but honestly I'm more of a replay guy. Add A Ball can get to be to long of a game.

Best 3 Pin EM Lineup You’ve Had? Post #1 in topic

Posted 11 months ago by DanMarino – in EM Pinball Hangout ‐ Last reply 10 months ago

Here is my best EM lineup of three machines I’ve had. Solid fun, although it is lacking the fun of a good spinner. I’m a sucker for drop targets. I really like the 4 flippers and playfield layout on El Dorado and Fireball is so cool with the multiball and skill shot. I’m trying to determine if I like Jacks Open or Card Whiz/Royal Flush better. What do you EM experts consider the best all things considered/EM lineup of 3 machines?[att=7542584,3357261 caption=""]
