I have 2 vintage clothing booths, where I have 2 of my machines set up, my top hand Pin takes 2 nickels for a game...and this works flawlessly- My El Dorado on the other hand, you have to put the quarter through-3 to 4 times before it will start a game....and not just kick the coin out the coin return. Any tips out there? I’m new at making my games do anything other than free play. [att=5872420,2139931 caption=""][att=5872420,2139932 caption=""]

Thousands reel not resetting on El Dorado Post #1 in topic

Posted 30 days ago by mfishell – in EM Pinball Tech ‐ Last reply 29 days ago

Working on an El Dorado that’s been sitting for over 10 years. I cleaned the score reels and they work good now except when the game starts, the thousands reel doesn’t reset. All others do. When playing a game, it scores correctly and carry on reels on either side works. It just won’t reset at beginning of game. I’ve looked at the relay contacts and all appear to be gapped and open and close properly.

Posted 98 days ago by mbeardsley – in All Pinball ‐ Last reply 82 days ago

While I like pinballs of all eras (though admittedly I can't say that I have played many from the 50's or earlier), there are almost no "new" games that I would even consider purchasing (except for the CGC remakes). Maybe if I had room for 20 or more machines, I'd be willing to consider a DP or BM66, but as I can only fit a few games, that's not going to happen. My favorites are the 90's B/W, but I also love a lot of SS machines (like EBD and Centaur) and EM machines (like Atlantis and El Dorado).

Besides the "reach out before you go fixin anything" the other advice I got here was PLAY IT OFTEN. It actually is my most played machine, usually daily. Like I said, almost 2 years of zero issues....these Gottliebs are TANKS. I'd like to have 2-3 more. I wish I knew what I did to fix this lol. So what Gottlieb EMs do you guys think would pair well with my TA? El Dorado? :-)

Here is my El Dorado. Rebuilt the cabinet and head and repainted, had a heck of a time with the spatter but happy with the final result. Had help getting the EM working once it was put back together other than a few tweaks, the game plays great. Wife’s favorite so it gets to be in the living room! It was a fun first restore.[att=5556708,1936241 caption=""][att=5556708,1936243 caption=""][att=5556708,1936242 caption=""]

Why is this "extra" post on my El Dorado playfield? Post #3 in topic

Posted 7 months ago by Darcy – in Gottlieb ‐ Last reply 7 months ago

Is it to absorb the force of the ball coming off the bumper so that guide lasts longer? This would be the best answer for El Dorado. On Solar City that post can be moved slightly, to limit ball access to the lane with the lit 'Special'.

Project time! Working on Jacks Open to repaint cabinet, Nip-It to see what the playfield is like under the grime, and El Dorado for a top-shop-job. Nip-it might leave due to faded/spotty playfield, but other two are certainly staying.[att=5540356,1928990 caption=""][att=5540356,1928989 caption=""][att=5540356,1928991 caption=""][att=5540356,1928992 caption=""]

Has anyone ever died or been severely injured moving a pin? Post #4 in topic

Posted 7 months ago by GSones – in All Pinball ‐ Last reply 7 months ago

I slipped while taking a pin out of the back of my truck. Luckily (inadvertently), I was able to put my body between it and the driveway so there wasn't any damage to the pin. I had some scrapes and bruises however. Fortunately for everyone involved, it was an El Dorado EM with the head removed so it wasn't too heavy.

I highly recommend a variety of different manufacturers. It really switches things up one game to the next.

I personally like drop targets so my choices are biased that way. El Dorado is a fun shooter with 15 drops. Skateball is another great one with 11 drops (plus spinner and kick-out hole). Paragon is another good one. Really too many fun ones to list though....

I don't know if this was asked previously but I was wondering what would be your favorite single level pin (no ramps, subways). I've been on the search for a simpler layout - #Paragon, #Firepower, El Dorado or whatever. Something that requires sharp shooting, nudging, etc. Perhaps select a couple from EMs and a couple from Solid States? What would be your choices?
