Thanks for sharing. I didn't see anyone with enough "balls" standing up to tell him his scuba kick hole is considered to be a "design flaw". Inspecting the photo of the whitewood it looks like the kick out shoots towards the dragon tank not the pops. Interesting. Does anybody else see this?

With the mod no freebies except for the bond inlane light. I think having the ball returned to the flipper is definitely an advantage especially since you wouldn’t have to worry about SDTM drains from the pops or dragon target depending on how your game is setup. I really don’t care about who mods their personal game…in fact you should if that makes you happy with your expensive toy but saying it’s the same (score wise) is a bit of a stretch IMHO.

Texas Pinball Festival (TPF 2024) - Discussion Post #353 in topic

Posted 12 days ago by splattii – in Events ‐ Last reply today

Nope. Wood has worked just fine for decades. I'll go with the time-tested playfield. Polycarbonate is fine for plenty of stuff, just not playfields, IMO. Any pin going the plastic playfield route is an automatic "no" for me. Interflip Dragon playfield is stunning and it's plexiglass or something like that, maybe fiberglass. The only EM that I've encountered that plays faster than a modern STERN. Makes me wonder if they weren't on to something and everyone else missed the boat.

Don't forget people sent their money into Haggis in the IMMEDIATE wake of the spectacular collapse of Deep Root. People should just ask for their Haggis money back, and then turn around and send it in for a Dragon's Lair  From one pipedream to the next. If your ball is ejecting from the left scoop and hitting the dragon tank target, the fix is just as @crazylevi said. go into adjustment setting #6 and change the coil strength to 14. The stock setting I think is 15. First I lowered it to 13 and it was only strong enough to make it to the entrance of the pops, but it clearly changed the angle of the shot. I upped it to 14 and it’s a strong shot into the pops every time.

oh great -just what I was hoping for....another $1,500 for new content. $1,500 is best case scenario. Probably more. I like how he thinks the RUSH topper is the best topper, when Stern's GoT was at least as good (I think better with the animated dragon) for 1/4 the price.

Alien was 1979. ‘81 was prime arcade time for me. I remember when Black Hole first started showing up. I played it a bunch at several locations, but I don’t remember it being 50 cent around here. Heck, pay phones were still a dime here up until the Reagan administration, so maybe it was just a regional thing. I definitely remember Dragon’s Lair breaking into that two quarter threshold, though.

I miss being able to play a game for a quarter drop. I know machines cost more; I know inflation adjusted ....yadda yadda yadda, but it crushes my younger soul having to pay a buck to play a game after all of the countless single quarter drops during the 80s. Again, your brain "remembers" all the pins being .25 cents in the 1980s; but..... Black Hole (1981) was the first .50 cent pinball. Dragon's Lair (1983) was the first .50 cent video game - ...and of course, .25 in 1980 is $1.01 in 2023, lol

Boulder mod kit for Sorcerer? Here's a rough mock up using the boulder images from WhiteWater and an aftermarket mod/tunnel with eyes that light up. All the flat plastics with bricks/stones on them got me thinking about what it could look like to bring this Sorcerer's world to life in 3D. Another idea for the left ramp is to use a dragon skull with eyes that light up (similar to Scared Stiff). Thoughts?[att=7931334,3698054 caption=""]

When I got my Prem Bond, the scuba kick out hit the dragon target 100% of the time. The version that I’d been playing on location goes to the pops nearly 100% of the time and was a much safer feed… no hot SDTM from off the target. So I just loosened the bolts on the mech, twisted it just slightly towards the pops, tightened it back up, and now it goes to the pops nearly 100% of the time. It’s as super easy change to make.

Mine hits the dragon target probably 99% of the time. There are times it hits that target and goes sdtm, not every time, but when it does it’s annoying. Mine hits the dragon target 99% of the time too. If you are worried about SDTM off that kickout, double flip and hold the flippers in on the kickout. It changes the kick out power enough for that to never happen to me now, when it used to happen more than I cared to see.

So, a couple months ago a nice local pinsider sold me Jive Time. That's one of only two EMs I remember playing as a kid. The other one was Dragon: who could forget hitting the dragons and BAOOOO! Every shriek made me nearly jump out of my shoes. Jive Time, I could not get enough of hitting that spinner and watching it, ha. Unfortunately Jive Time isn't starting up, and I'm not an EM guy, but I'll figure it out one day. But I wish Santa would just send his elves to sort it for me!

EM with Capacitor? Post #9 in topic

Posted 108 days ago by schudel5 – in EM Pinball Tech ‐ Last reply 108 days ago

Many EMs use a capacitor, diode and resistor for a simple delay timer. Typically to allow an event to complete before scoring, bonus or player transitions. 300 uses this to make sure balls are racked before bonus scoring. Grand Prix to wait until spinners are done before adding bonus. Ringer to wait until the horseshoe wheel stops spinning before scoring and switching players. Now go look at an Interflip Dragon EM. That'll blow your mind...

Gottlieb System 1 Power Supply Voltage Problem Post #1 in topic

Posted 111 days ago by shado01 – in Tech: Early solid state ‐ Last reply 106 days ago

I replaced the power supply board on a Dragon. All suggested grounding mods completed. All input voltages checked good at J1. All output voltages checked good at J2. The 4vdc and 8vdc outputs check good at pins 7 and 8 on J3 using the proper ground on J2. Pins 1 and 3 on J3 both read 99 vdc using pin 5 on J3 for ground. Any ideas of where to check for the source of the problem? Thanks.
