Plastic for 1956 derby day pin Post #1 in topic

Posted over 3 years ago by Fortspin – in EM Pinball Tech ‐ Last reply over 3 years ago

Hi, I recently purchased this 1956 woodrail Derby Days pinball machine. The 4 pieces of plastic on the game field appear to have melted somehow. Long story short I am looking to find replacement plastic pieces. With that said, does anyone think that the bulbs would do this to the plastic? I wouldn't imagine so but how else would they get that way? The machine was stored in a basement since 1966 and has not seen sunlight. [att=5956800,2193062 caption=""]

Loving Ofest, really getting into the game now, just had duck Derby, great music for that! But were any of the volume levels changed on last update? I like cranking up the tunes but now the callouts are too loud in comparison, is there a way to lower just the callouts? The sound in settings is just the overall master volume.

Thanks, Rich, for a show that has left me with such good memories. Looking forward to hopefully experiencing it all again next year!

Gottlieb 1970 Groovy No "Manual" Post #6 in topic

There's some discussion of the first Gottlieb manuals here: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/gottlieb-the-race-is-on-the-first-oldest-real-manual Looks like Snow Derby was the first Gottlieb with a manual according to that thread but there is even a discrepancy on IPDB whether the game came out in December 1970 or December 1971. We now know at least there were Gottlieb manuals printed in 1971.

My buyer had a EM mechanic work on it. Seems there was a slam tilt type switch the relay board that had been jimmied to stay open when it was supposed to be closed. What I admired about that pin was the accuracy of the keylines around the inserts. They were done with such precision with a keyline only 1/16" wide.

That makes a lot of sense I'm sure they have given a reason as like I said I only read 2 articles and they mostly focus on the historical aspect of the upcoming races. Makes me wonder though if they will leave the Preakness at 1 3/16 and Debry at 1 1/4 miles or alter one of those races. Perhaps they increase the Derby to 1.5 miles, it'll be strange anyway it's done.

We also have the Belmont Stakes coming up on the 20th. Triple Crown is going to be really strange with the races running a different sequence for the the 1st time in my life and the 2nd in the races history. The Belmont will run for the 1st time in history before the other two legs of the Crown, The Derby and Preakness. The Belmont will also be shortened to 1 1/4 from 1.5 miles. All three I think are going to be ran with empty Grandstands.

After 23 months, I have finally completed what I would consider my first restoration, Snow Derby. From dumpster-worthy to gameroom-worthy, IMO, she was officially added to the lineup tonight. ... pin! Thankyou @nicovolta for your recent thread and video highlighting Snow Derby: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/let-s-play-snow-derby-1970-gottlieb-at-roanoke-pinball-museum I have learned a lot in ...

Whats the value of a Snow Derby these days? I have one back in Pittsburgh that I planned to restore one day but might just sell it. Overall playfield has the wear spots below the kickout saucers but other then that pretty good looking. Cabinet will need redone as previous owner redid it. Same pattern just different colors and it's not appealing, to me at least. Game is working.

Snow Derby is a great 2 inch flip game. Been close to acquiring this game a few times but haven't been able to pull the trigger for various reasons. Love the ability to come back on the last ball, similar to Big Shot an other games that double bonus on 3rd/fifth ball(s). Would also like to see the new paint scheme on this game.

The local traffic lady was just saying that there are a lot of rollover single car accidents around here lately, people not use to using empty on/off ramps. Idiots just hauling ass I've got people stopped at stop signs not going anywhere. And others pulling into traffic not looking to see if anybody else is coming. It's like demolition derby out there.

Mine I had to lightly shim the mounting screws for the coil assembly where it attaches to the plate assembly. It would bind more than not. After shimming, it was fine. Thanks, did you just put washers on the screws between the bracket and plate? That's a great idea, maybe bringing the height of the arm up will help. I'll also try the graphite, think I have some left over from the kid's pinewood derby many years ago.

Question about the behavior of the Beer Barrel lock and either Last Call or Duck Derby. Should the behavior be for the balls in the BB lock to drop during either modes? I am consistently seeing issues with both while running the beta code. Not sure if it might be related to yet another failing membrane switch or code issues. Can provide logs and whatever details might help. Anyone else having this problem?
