I know for sure because I told someone I know to ask him personally at an EXPO. Because that mystery artist designed my darling I'm very eager to hear that name.

Really? Love that game. It's tough to beat, but a lot of fun. "Ro Go" is totally uninspiring to me. I'd take "Darling" over it any day. Just picking on the Gottlieb Guys a bit. :kidding: Sweet Hearts is the #1 EM on the IPDB rankings... which is nuts to me. I see mostly bagatelle and drains with a tiny play area at the bottom. Not much to do but "hit it up the lanes" by chance. If you win, no points, but you get to do it again! Bwah?!? Would take Darling over Ro-Go too!

I'll have to give it another chance then. When I first played Jubilee (or Darling. Maybe I dismissed it a little too quickly!

I like the oddness of the Gottlieb games of that time. I agree. Gottlieb games are oddball games, and I like that. I'm also a cheap date who's easy to please when it comes to pinball. 80% of the time, I'm just looking to slap a few balls around (heh), score a multiball or two, and then I've had my fix. I even enjoy notoriously terrible games, like Darling or Raven, just because I'll have a good time poking fun at the bad games as I play.

Of course there's all of the "hit balls through a loop to the other side" games, particularly the ones with multiple balls. Not sure if those really count, but worth noting. (Skylab/Spacelab, Darling/Jubilee, etc.) Or if you have an opponent has really awful aim to one side of the playfield you even set them up in a good old game of Magnotron/Duotron with one ball. ;) (Now I'm just jokingly pushing it) [att=3281659,753253 caption=""]

Jubilee/Darling is super common. They built a ton of them. If it were rare I'd never consider hacking it up. I bought a motorboard from a parted out Williams Jivetime, so I have quite a few switches and relays to play with. I think it will be fun doing analog programming. Gotta get the game clean and working first, though. I was considering a Bally style gate at the top of the playfield and a Williams style gate at the bottom. I would need to add a trough switch since it doesn't have one.

Funny to see love for Fan-Tas-Tic. That's a game that is commonly parted out. No, that's what Jubilee and Darling are for. ? Sadly, a lot of Fan Tas Tic backglass are badly flaking as were many Jubilee and Darling and Aztec. Not a good era for Williams glasses.

Good point Alex. I always say that I've never met a pinball machine that I didn't like - it's just that I like some more than others. All games have something to offer. It just seemed like $400 for what I presumed was a non-working Darling, seemed a bit high. Oh well, as long as someone got it and will enjoy it, that's all that matters.

Darling doesn't have a reputation as a great player. But then I have learned the ones with bad reps are rarely as bad as you're led to believe. The same thing seems to apply to the ones with good reps. I'm guessing it may be fairly fun in competition to steal you're opponents captive balls.

Thanks for putting on a fun show! Nice to hear Will. I have never had a chance to play a Jubilee or Darling. Looking forward to it.

What game would you NOT take even if it were given to you?? Post #96 in topic

Gosh, I didn't realize there's so much hate for Street Fighter II. As a fan of the video game, I'd take one "just to have." Now, as for William's Jubilee/Darling. Yikes. Even for free, and as someone with limited space, they'd really just be a giant wooden boat anchor in my basement. Except a boat anchor might actually be more fun.
