For sale: Cyclopes Post #5 in topic

Posted 9 days ago by bjsilverballs – in Pinball machines for sale ‐ Last reply 9 days ago

I've been torn. Really torn. I've been treating it like a collectible instead of a pin I play daily. I've got too many games for this space though so need to make some tough choices. Also selling a Catacomb which I freakin love but same story. I guess I could go for the trifecta and list the Cirqus Voltaire too... :wall:

Also, Saturn Wagon. I love my Saturn wagon. It is the LW-300 wagon with the V-6 engine. It brought home Big Game, Seawitch, Nine Ball, Catacomb, Game Plan Captain Hook, a blown out Dracula cab that became a Star Gazer. It took two pins to TPF. Good highway car. It will get on the highway and cruise at 90mph all day long. At 65mph, it will get 27 miles per gallon. But the engine is not the easiest to work on. And I miss the low end torque a V-8 engine provides.

Why so obsessed/focused on xformer? Because the larger transformer plays better. For me, faster equals better. And as YOU suggested, you can always put stronger coils in your game if you are not happy with flipper power. And this is me ALREADY HAVING the stronger 475 coils installed---and then trying the -3. Nine Ball and Dragonfist are just a squeakers on playing action with the -3. With Catacomb, it was a no-go after 2 minutes of play with the -3.

I have a Wild Fyre that followed me home but wants to become a Quicksilver. Is the group cool with that? Ha, Wild Fyre is a better game but whatever floats your boat! Just think of the blasphemy of actually keeping a game worth $750 the way it sits and NOT turning it into a turd of a game worth 7 grand? It’s all about perspective. At least you aren’t trying to turn it into a Catacomb.

Stern Catacomb for me. Very subjective of course (theme is Cool and it's a beautiful pin) but I found the gameplay dumb and the bagatelle idiotic. Sold it after a few months... to find it the year after at a competition in Belgium (EPC) among the classics. It kicked my ass again.

... . I had the play field restored only because it was ugly looking. For my Catacomb, the play field is in very good condition, however, the inserts are cupped. ... like a dream with super fast ball action. I have a CPR Catacomb play field but this Catacomb is too nice to restore so as long as I own it, it ... plays nice with no protector. Spectrum is very meh to me. I didn't keep Catacomb but that was before I knew how to modify the software. (Mainly the relocking of balls in mulbiball.... that sucked!!) But I would make a spectrum for catacomb trade in a second. Hot Hand is very fun because it's so quirky. I have the outlane posts removed on mine, really steep, and a hair trigger tilt. I added some attract mode effects and made the mid playfield kickbig spot the Ace if it's doesn't complete the line for you.

I have two Seawitches, and zero Stars, so that's where my mind is at right now. Would also consider pretty much any other classic Stern that I don't have (I have Nine Ball, Big Game, and Seawitch(X2)). Go for Catacomb. It will make you a better player and you will love it. Or you will never be able to play it and want to sell it. It is fast and not boring.

I think a really nice, interactive, electronic and/or mechanical backglass could make up for lack of an LCD, if the theme didn't absolutely depend on video clips. Scared stiff and catacomb come to mind. Black hole looks neat, but isn't interactive. I think it'd be neat to have something like the instrumentation panel in ultraman, but an actual, real instrumentation panel with LEDs, 7 segment displays, dial meters, etc.

I am having an issue with the my catacomb, the trough area in particular. In switch test, all switches are working properly and laying correctly on the little arm bracket in the trough....but the coil isn't firing to let the ball in the shooter lane. All the drop target coils are firing over and over when this happens. The coil works in test. Any ideas on this? Thanks
