Jungle Queen BX Relay Switches Post #8 in topic

Posted over 3 years ago by gjm – in EM Pinball Tech ‐ Last reply over 3 years ago

I had similar issues with my Card Whiz a few weeks. Go to this site: pinrepair.com/em/ scroll down to part 3 and click on "E" which is: Video: Ax Relay and Reset Banks This video will get you started on what needs to be working on your relay, they are finicky but listen to what Clay says and apply the repair as he directs. It worked for my pin and now it is working at 100% no issues. Just remember, before adjusting make sure the stack switch screws are tight.

Gottlieb Far Out schematic error? Post #12 in topic

Posted over 3 years ago by wawhite92025 – in EM Pinball Tech ‐ Last reply over 3 years ago

Great discussion and info on the complexities of the score motor. A friend and I had been trying to figure out how Card Whiz/Royal Flush could score 3000 points until MarkG explained how switches could operate in the circuit to "drop out" 2 of the 5 pulses. We were searching the game and schematic for a 3 lobe cam or 3000 point relay, ha ha. The fact that score motors seem to rarely (almost never?) quit working is a testimony of the quality of the product. Will

I’ve had a lot trouble with them. They don’t fit flush. I’ve had to shim them in both of the games I installed them. (Mata Hari and World Fair). I’m afraid to even try them on my Eight Ball Deluxe. I had to do the same thing with the Gottlieb Card Whiz that I'm working on for a co-worker. I had to do extensive repairs to the cabinet, so when I rebuilt the front cab corners I modified the corner bracing to accommodate new plates. Had to shim the back ones. Still worth it for the piece of mind.

Does anyone know the specific differences of a 2 v 4 player Gottlieb em? For example, I was wondering the interchangeability of components of a Royal Flush and Card Whiz. I assume the playfields are identical. Obviously the backboxes are different. Is the cabinet hardware the same? If you had a Card Whiz backbox, could you put it on a Royal Flush cabinet and playfield without any mods? Would it be plug and play?

Do you have a molding slide / receiver that accepts the tabbed style bar. I've heard I might be able to swap out the whole thing? Royal Flush/Card Whiz (and Surfer/Surf Champ I believe) are perfect for updating to the shark fin style receiver because they have the newer larger coin door and do not need slots for coin slides like the earlier shorter height body cabinets prior to 1976.

The shots on TAF don't suck, but its definitely an overrated game, imo. all of the 90s games I love are overrated imo. Comparing games like Addams Family and Theatre Of Magic to new games like Iron Maiden and Jurassic Park and Pirates Of The Caribbean feels comparing Flight 2000 and Seawitch to Addams Family and Theatre of Magic. Or comparing Card Whiz and Big Shot to Flight 2000 and Seawitch. They're all amazingly fun games, but the generation gap is huge.

Gottlieb Card Whiz Problems Post #63 in topic

Posted over 4 years ago by DCRand – in EM Pinball Tech ‐ Last reply over 4 years ago

One minor note to add. In refurbishing a Card Whiz, had a similar problem. After doing everything possible to adjust and clean the I relay to get it to work correctly. Was still not always having the pawl catch. Finally traced it to the motor switch. It was adjusted with too large a gap, so was sending a very quick pulse to the coil which didn't allow a long enough full engagement of the coil and therefore pawl. Adjusted it correctly, and problem solved as the coil received a "full" pulse.

I did a redraw using 'Corel' from a photo of my 'Card Whiz' backglass many years ago. The file was printed on a translight material (Solink). The block out designed on 'Corel Draw' and was cut from adhesive vinyl then adhered to a sheet of 1.5mm 'Astariglas' which is a acrylic material. A second piece of 'Astariglas' is also used. You can see below how it all came together.[att=5694964,2020682 caption=""]

EM games where the drops don't reset during the ball. Like Out Of Sight, Target Alpha, etc. You have to make them brutally difficult and steep because if you knock all the targets down you've got little else to shoot for. A game that did it well is Royal Flush / Card Whiz, where all the drops down reveals a target behind them that gives big points AND is risky.

Gottlieb Card Whiz double bonus issue Post #1 in topic

Posted over 4 years ago by gjm – in EM Pinball Tech ‐ Last reply over 4 years ago

Recently picked up a working Card Whiz which is set on 3 ball. Everything works and scores properly but when ball 2 gets ejected into the shooter lane the "double bonus" light comes on and when the ball drains it scores double points and stays on for the final ball which is normal. When starting a new game the light stays off for the 1st ball. Everything by eye looks good with the "I" and "KY" relays. Thanks for any advice that can help.

What's for sale in Ohio right now? Post #5084 in topic

Posted over 4 years ago by pghpinfan – in Regional for sale threads ‐ Last reply yesterday

Looking for a Big Hit, Strikes and Spares, and either a Royal Flush or Card Whiz. I have only ever owned newer games but was playing a few of these older titles before the quarantine hit and just loved them. Anyone looking to sell any of these titles? The few I have seen on the market place are either out of my price range or just too far for travel. I’d be willing to set up a deal to make the transaction once we are out of quarantine as well.

@Silverstreak02, Thank you! Yeah, once I saw how nice the playfield and backglass looked, I had to buy it. The previous owner had it for about 30 years and didn't play it much. So far I'm liking Card Whiz. I just got to a playable state recently. It needs a lot more tuning, but I like the variety of shots this pin has.
