    Looks like I’m in the club in a big way. I just made a deal for a Middle Earth, an Airborne Avengers, a Space Riders, an Atarians, a Middle Earth playfield, and a few boxes of Atari parts. And I already had an Airborne Avengers. Only one of them is working, so I’ve got my work cut out for me. I’ll share more in a few weeks after I’m able to assess everything.

    45 1/2" x 27 3/4" x 1/8" Are there different size glass used on the early Atari pins? My Atarians seems to use 45” x 27 3/4” x 1/8” glass. The one on my Airborne Avengers is missing. Just want to make sure I get the right one. Haven’t had a chance to see if the Atarians glass fits or is too short on the Airborne.

    Wanted to ask about the small 7W bulbs used in the backbox. Are the bulbs just regular 7W bulbs used in these early Atari games? I finally got a chance to start working on my Atarians and it has 5 working 7W bulbs but they are all blinkers. Was surprised by that. Are the ones in Middle Earth blinkers too? Anyone have a current source for them?

    It could also be from The Atarians, Time 2000, Airborne Avenger, or Space Riders. Atari used that style of score display from 1976-1978.

First photo one is a Liberty Bell, the next are Bobby Orr Power Play and The Atarians. Both of those definitely ended up in the garbage right quick after spending time outside!     Cool, yeah the way it was written was confusing too. I will assume 2000 were made then for the meme I have no idea how many were made. I will say that out of all the Atari titles, when I was hunting for them, Time 2000 and Atarians were the most difficult to find. The other titles tended to pop up with some regularity.

    For Atarians, it's pretty simple. There's no displays in the head, it's only there to hold the backglass and the lamp board. All the boards and displays are in the main cabinet. I don't know if the head dimensions are the same between the Gen1 and Gen2 machines.

    Back in the day when I was operating PINBALL PETES in Michigan we bought an Atarians. Still have it stored in THE BIG HIT SHED. It also had the same bottom and had a Midway coin door FROM THE FACTORY.

    Should be easy enough to pop the coin door open and see if the other two flippers were ever mounted. But that start button is fascinating..... I can't even see any evidence it was ever on the cabinet. Did Atari have full-on coin doors for anything prior to Atarians? All the 1976 and prior arcade games I'm looking at just had the smaller coin mech mounting plates.

    Ah-ah! That's the photo I was thinking of. I originally thought that collection included Atarians. Around here, both Atarians and Time 2000 are incredibly difficult to find. I've only seen maybe 2 examples of each ... past 5 years--and that's including the games I acquired. We are still trying to aquire an Atarians to complete our Atari collection.     Last year I BARELY missed an Atarians deal at a local vintage shop going out of business for $40. Still miffed at that one but what can you do. A few years ago a 4x4 sat on e-bay for a LONG time, which IIRC included a 2nd populated playfield. Always wondered where that one went. -Hans

    When Atarians is first booted, the coin lockout coil pulls in after a few seconds & the lights sequence on the playfield. That leads me to believe that the processor is running. As I said previously, if anyone has interest, I will go back & investigate further.

    Thanks @pinhead306 for posting that link to The Atarians. That is the first one that I have seen for sale - and I have seen a LOT of pins for sale. :wink: That sure brings back memories. I played The Atarians when it first came out. It was a game changer.

    Can you still buy those? If so, from where? Flippers.com is listing them. Used, $25 each. Those Ledex motors are the originals installed in Time 2000, The Atarians, Airborne Avenger. Those Ledex motors have a poor reputation however and where replaced many times with the traditional style flipper mechs which came with Atari's Middle Earth, Space Riders and Superman (Gen2).

Enjoy! :party: An Atarians would make a nice addition to my collection but they must be as rare as hens teeth because I never see them on CL. An Airborne Avenger would suffice as well. :wink:

    The paperwork inside the cabinet also reads "The Atarians". "The Atarians" was a game (obviously by Atari, lol) from a year prior, so they must not have printed the new sheet yet during this prototype/test phase so they stuck that in.
