Get or make yourself a jumper wire with an alligator clip on the end. Clip the jumper wire onto the coil tab with the wire with the orange/black tracer. Close the playfield and feed the other end of the jumper out through the coin door. Set up the game and then touch one of the side rails with the jumper. Hold it for a one-Mississippi count. If the ball launches out as it’s supposed to then you have an electrical issue. If it launches out sluggishly then you have a mechanical / coil problem.

This alligator jumper template can be used for many other Bally machines as well that has a replay button starting problem. The differences are: in step #1 the brown-red wire and the yellow wire are the correct wires, but they might be in different jones plug locations. Step #5 the black-white wire is correct, but might be connected to a different switch on the stack, like 1E instead of 1D.

Please make a generic video install for the cabinet/power, and then custom install videos by machine type where it connects to. I don't see anything loose. I ran the coil test with the playfield up and it isn't pulling the plate to the magnet. if I push the forks up manually it will release it when it gets to that portion of the test. Got me. Maybe the coil itself is bad. Can you alligator clip the coil to a known working one and see if it fires? That's what I'd do to test the coil on an older game but I don't know if that works on a Spike Stern. Get a second opinion before you try it.

If the score motor runs and finds a home position when you nudge the cams, that means that the coin switches are wired correctly and working properly. Connect an alligator jumper end to the white-orange wire on the replay button switch. Connect the other jumper end to the gray-yellow wire on the coin unit normally closed limit blade switch. The other wire on the switch will have a brown-red wire connected. Test replay button.

@howardr Nevermind! I looked at the videos again and realized I could Alligator clip near the fuse (probably no different than at the transformer but felt safer). That worked. So problem is definitely that 2nd Coin Chute Switch on the door. If I always use the game as free play is there a way to just completely bypass these door switches? They seem awfully finicky and completely useless if not ever using coins.

I think my next test is going to be to put in one of the new dumbass boards (with new transistors/diode), then jumper the coil wires from the board to the coil. (Removing J127 and J107 connectors, and attaching alligator clips from the coil lugs to J127-1 and J107-1) With this test, it would be a new board, new coil, new wires. Only thing left would be the coil mount (but confirmed not grounded), and everything connected to the power board (CPU, etc)
