Romp in the Swamp VI, plus side tourney

The main tournament will be group matchplay (balanced or swiss matching TBD), and the side tournament will be best game format with knockout finals

Designated as: Event is a tournament

Hello Everyone:

It is time for the first major tournament in Louisiana in 2019: Romp in the Swamp VI in Lake Charles. As a reminder, Romp in the Swamp events are held at a private residence and parking is limited, please try and park effectively and try not to unduly disturb the neighbors. Entry fee is $20 a person, this fee is used to cover what will be a really nice lunch, snacks, trophies and the IFPA tourney fees for both the main tourney and side tourney.

For the first time, we will be moving away from a head to head tourney bracket and adopting the very popular matchplay format. 3 points for first, 2 for second, and 1 for third on each game. The intention is to use balanced pairings, however, we are still investigating whether Swiss pairings may be better and we reserve the right to use a Swiss pairing matchplay format. You will play two games with the group you are allotted to and then re-allocated to a new group. We plan to do 5 groupings. The top four will make the playoffs (we reserve the right to increase the number of people who make finals to a higher number should the IFPA require a higher number of people in the final playoff). Assuming only four people make the final playoffs, the playoffs will be two more four player games with the same scoring to determine placing of the top four.

Four games will be pulled out during the finals of the main tournament to be utilized in the side tournament discussed below.

You may arrive as early as 11:30am if you wish to visit and/or practice. Lunch will be served around noon and matchplay will kick off at 1pm.

We are limiting entrees to 32 people for the main tournament (though we have never had 32 people turn out previously, we are hopeful to attract that many this time). Please let us know if you are able to join us to reserve your spot. You may contact the tourney director of the Louisiana IFPA rep Mike Vanetten ( mlvanetten@yahoo.com ) to let us know you are coming. We expect we will have room for whomever may want to come.

We will have a side tournament to Romp in the Swamp VI. The side tourney will feature the matchplay software's "Best Game" modified decay scoring format where you get two entrees on four games, with your best game counting on the modified decay scale. The top four will make the playoffs, where you will play one game with all four qualifying players with the lowest score dropping out, then a three player game with the lowest score dropping out, then the final game (you can not play the same game twice in the finals).

Edit: There will be a second side tournament. My TSPP is having an issue where it occasionally resets and is being pulled out of the main tournament due to this reason. It will have a dedicated side tourney where we can watch it more closely and not have it mess up the main tournament on a four player game. Here is the side tourney: Best Game format, two chances, only your best game counts. The top four will make the playoffs, where you will play one game with all four qualifying players with the lowest score dropping out, then a three player game with the lowest score dropping out, then the final game. The name of this side tourney will be The Simpson's Pinball Madness.
