Hook, line and sinker!

I listen to a lot of podcasts. Mostly The Joe Rogan Exp, Ari Shaffirs Skeptic Tanks and Stuff you should know. Now if you haven't already heard it, Stuff you should know has a great podcast on pinball. Once I listened to that episode, I searched out and watched the Documentaries they had mentioned. Tilt and Special when lit. I was hooked! I had to go play! I knew my local bowling alley had a game. But I couldn't remember which one.

I used to play arcade and pinball machines a lot as a kid and teenager. I grew up around the time when Mortal Kombat and Street fighter were big. And also the big licenced pins of that time. So naturally you always wanted to play the new machines that came out to some of the best movies. Indy and Terminator, the list goes on. Once arcades and bowling alleys started a decline, I was more into girls to even notice. Plus everyone I knew had at least one home console, if not two!

So I went down to the bowling alley and right there in the main hallway there is a really nice, The Getaway HS2. The volume was cranked and I started to play. The line was reeling me in! (They have since traded it out for a Creature from the Black lagoon! )

I really like the physical nature of a pinball machine. All those moving parts, programmed just right is a thing of beauty. Not to mention some of the artwork and themes. I grew up playing the games of the 80s golden age. So those appeal to me most but I'll play anything. Each machine is so different. Yet its pinball and I love it!

In the last 9 months or so I've searched out and played 20+ machines at various locations around Vancouver and the rest of the Lower mainland. I religiously watch PAPA and Todd Tuckeys TNT Amusements Youtube channels and listen to about 7 pinball podcasts. My favs being Coast to Coast, Pinheadz and the new Deadflip. Next step is shopping for and buying my first machine! Pinside is my homepage because I always want easy access to the estimated costs of games so I can scope out the deals and to check if a game is on the bag for your buck list. Id really like a TNT machine but shipping alone would kill my budget.

Any suggestions on great starter games would be greatly appreciated. Or ones to avoid for what ever reason.

Ill update soon I hope.

If I were just starting out and had the cash I'd get a newer pin. Generally less things to fix. If you don't mind tinkering/fixing stuff I'd go for one of the 90's Williams/Bally pins.
