Early reviews of this game in the wild were on target: to me, it feels like a bad retheme of Kiss. The playfield somehow manages to botch geometry that worked so well in Kiss, so shots that ought to feel really good seem bizarre when they don't work. The box toy is cute but doesn't work about 30% of the time on both machines I've played, and frankly the code that supports it doesn't make a lot of sense. Of course the music is good and the artwork is great. The LCD adds nothing. Art and theme don't save this game and I can't imagine anyone would keep it around at home for any amount of time though it might do well on route.

Full disclosure I love JJP machines and was predisposed to like this one. I didn't, though, the first two times I played it in Connecticut at a Christmas showing, though I agreed with others playing it at the time that it recalls Ripleys and Addams family. Spent 3-4 hours on it in Chicago on free play at HQ, where there's a line for it at all times. It is a tank. The build quality is of great. The machine takes a huge beating on route and just didn't care. It's beautiful. Lighting, integration of LCD and phone toy and bob all perfect. Shots feel exactly right. It is shocking this code is so incomplete because it already is coherent and engrossing. I don't know why anyone would pay $12.5k for an LE because the pro I played is perfect in terms of how it looks, though the backboard and topper must be a huge pain in the ass to move around. This is the machine that will bring a new generation to pinball and a great one to teach skills. The selfie cam should be moved to the top because hello old people don't want to watch their double chins haha. The theater works well, much better than the same tech implemented in WoZ. It's a great game

I just do not get it. This game feels floaty and less enjoyable than any other released in that two year period and it isn't at all obvious why anyone would play it for any period of time. Has not held up well over the years either.

I can't rain on this game too much because I see so many players who love it and seem to really thrive in what to me really seems like a pretty cheap and unrefined game. I also might just be annoyed that a game that costs so much is so thoroughly plastic-y and breaks so often. But in the end my real sense is that this game is beloved only to those who bother to learn its deep ruleset and those who need loads of seizure level LED flashing. It isn't for me. I find that it just feels boring.

I just don't get it. This pin is impossible to enjoy even casually unless you have lightning fast reflexes, and doesn't teach them either. It isn't cheap looking but the theme is incoherent (is it about rapids? Or monsters?). So much of the game is invisible that the rapids might as well be a subway, and the effects that should support it like water sound and a continuous escalating and de-escalating soundtrack aren't there. This is a nostalgia pin or a players pin for like 100 people on earth. But as someone new to pinball it is just annoying.

Fun, fast but gets old quickly. Theme isn't super compelling.

This pin is a blast to play. It rewards practice and is enjoyable for folks of any skill level. A truly refined game and also very pretty and solid. Love it. If only it weren't so dark.

Dark dark dark. Better have some lights shining down on this pin because it is hard to see anything. It is a confusing playfield and the best thing about it - cool shots - is hard to master at best and really isn't that much fun. I want to like this pin and played for hours but it just isn't great.

My wife loves this game. I've seen loads of people play it. People like the theme. And those pretty plastic ramps that glow. Etc. But the game is boring, in fact to me it is definition of boring. It doesn't feel like you are in the movie or for that matter like you are going anywhere. It has flow but only because of the same couple of easy shots that get old quickly.

Really? Derivative doesn't begin to capture how boring this machine was to everyone I've seen evaluate it. I wonder sometimes whether folks are paid to give the numbers on a few of these machines because on no planet would anyone honestly say this is a game that is enjoyable over and over or has good sound or lighting.

The gimmicks are good, the best use of the basic Stern table I've seen. It feels like Star Trek and Metallica bought an erector set, though, from a creativity standpoint. It makes up for its lack of creativity with a nice build quality though. Probably the best of that era at stern. Fun to play but not super fun.

I get why folks love this game. I do come back to it pretty regularly because I'm ok at it and it is a good warm up game. But it is cheap looking even in the LE and the pro is just cheesy. I don't know why anybody thinks this is a good investment but maybe it is because I don't love Metallica enough to enjoy that part of it. The magnet is its only truly redeeming feature.

I guess kids might like it. But it feels cheap to me and the game play is just endless despite a few interesting shots.

Quirky and amazing, it won't please everyone but the Adams genre and those who love its style of playfield will never get tired of it. Interesting shots require loads of discipline too. But in the end it's not for me, maybe I'm just too young or too dumb because it seems to drag and the audio quality isn't great either.

The Pro really suffers by comparison to the LE and premium and the effect is multiplied by the differences in the playfield and no bass or shaker.

Hypnotizing and fun this game just gets better with age and its challenging shots and pace are better too with time. Utterly different from its peers and the opposite of all games in the top 10, it is in a place all its own.

I've tried this machine in five different iterations and I just do not get it, the rule set is not that rich or deep and its shots are fast but the geometry isn't actually that great, but equally important it is fragile and quickly seems gimmicky. Maybe it's just me but I think this game benefits from nostalgia d.b.a. hype.

It took about a week to get really tired of this one even though it is complex and fast and colorful. There just isn't enough there and it gets cheesy fast.

This game feels like it is younger and is in many ways a worthy namesake for Tommy, and it is very "meta" of course in that it is a pinball about pinball in which your pinball emulates the pinball player who ... you get the idea. This machine would be at the top of the charts but for one thing: its theme tie-in to the musical vs to the Who. Nobody wants to hear the Broadway rendition of these songs and frankly the feel of the machine needs to be darker to go with the awesome shots and speed of the game play. Really rewards a good player.

Love it. Beautiful pin with clear pathway and fun objects in playfield. Tough shots and fast moving game. I would buy it. The voice subs are a little, um, hard to understand but the zombie feel comes through. Revised: it gets old. Really old. This is a fun pin but after a couple of months of bashing the guy in the middle and opening the house, you really notice how repetitive and spartan the shots are. The LE helps but not much and the toys are actually kind of cheap. Still, I play it in the wild. But own it? Never

The playfield is almost boring it is so empty. The complexity of the rule set is ridiculous to the point that this game only belongs in the home. So why is this game great? Not sure but it is, and it does redeem itself after a week or so of learning to love that open playfield with so few fun gimmicks - eschewing the obvious for the feel of a board game. It rewards your patience.

This might well be the best pinball even made. It is certainly the most imaginative and its feel is elegant and so well constructed that no other machine at the mass production level is likely to beat it.

Unbelievably fun and well paced. Rule set a little repetitive but what it repeats is fun anyway. Fabulous feel though only the LE and premium are really elegant.

Nobody loves sttng more than me and that saves this game for me because the game is fun but not incredibly so, and the droning of the theme song is a bit much even for me.

I don't get it, and maybe that is the problem but this machine bores me to death. So much potential but it seems to flounder when played fast and hard.

I wouldn't buy and don't love this game because of the theme, which bores me, but it plays so well and is both predictable (in a good way) and forgiving (also in a good way) without being easy or floaty.

It is hard to imagine a better pinball game all the way around. Endlessly fun and balanced so well it defies physics and logic.

Enjoy it a lot. Deep rule set. Fun to play for a long game. But the toys are sparse and by comparison to other games of this ilk it suffers from a really boring playfield, 8; we are being honest.

It is amazing. Easily the best of the machines we have played out of 300 or so. If there is a weakness to this machine I can't find it. The third flipper is in fact useful and plays a role in many elements of the gameplay. And as for quality, put this next to the best currently produced Stern and judge for yourself. It is so vastly better than any one of them. I am tempted to describe its rule set as perfect too and the LCD use is masterful. It looks as good as the movie. And it really feels while playing like you are in the hobbit world. That's a real accomplishment too.
