I got bit by this bug when I found a pinball machine at a garage sale about a year ago. It was advertised as a Zelda machine, but I went to look at it anyways. Turned out to be a Xenon!! For $400! I couldn't pass it up! Little did I know it was worth SO much more. I played with it and learned a LOT the first few weeks. There was so much information available from all the other users and websites. I found a Laser Ball a few weeks later and couldn't help myself. I found out that it's best to make sure the game plays before buying a machine. It turned out to have broken glass down in the drop targets. I got it going but what a job that was.
I sold both machines and went out the next day and purchased one I had been looking at for quite a long time. Road Kings was a great machine, but the PF was a MESS. (see pic at left) It turned out to need only a little mechanical work in order to get it running. The playfield was another story. After a few attempts with different methods, I decided to freehand it with Testor model paint. It turned out FANTASTIC!! I put about 5 coats of Varathane on it and it looks amazing. A Pinhead came over to look at it, and he asked me if I did contract work. That was cool!! I'm on my 7th and 8th game now. I'm hoping they turn out as well as the Road Kings game. Phoenix won't be a problem, but I think Silverball Mania will be a lot more work. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for checking out my story.
