I have always loved the silverball - played a lot in the 80's while in high school and college. Got busy with life after college and don't recall playing much at all from 1991-2012, quite a long hiatus!
But finally the drought was snapped in 2013, when I brought my teenage daughter to Magfest, a music and gaming festival in D.C. Video games dominated the festival, but they had a huge arcade set up which included a dozen or so pinball machines, and they were set on free play! And most of the games were 90's titles that I had never seen, like Cirqus Voltaire and Shadow, so it was quite the candy shop for my inner kid. They had some classic standup video games as well and even and Ice Cold Beer skill game.
My daughter and I had a blast and went back to Magfest in Jan 2014. My first time at the festival, I did not have much time to spend playing pinball since I needed to watch my daughter closely. But we had a group of her friends and parents this time, so I had much more time to play pinball and I took full advantage :))
Needless to say I was blown away by the great DMD games that I had missed out when I was snoozing during the nineties, and I resolved to make up for lost time. I got home and scoured the web to find out how I could rekindle my passion for pinball. Pinside was a great catalyst and soon I had joined a local league and picked up my first machine, a classic Taxi! Of course I gradually filled up new game room with five others.
It's the perfect hobby indeed - great way to meet folks, have some friendly competition and the injury risk is minimal. So I thank my daughter, Magfest and Pinside for helping me find my way back!
