In college my brother and I purchased a pinball machine together - Royal Flush by Gottlieb (1976). Since he had kids first, it went to his house. Fast-forward 40 years. He got divorced last year, his kids have been grown and out of the house for over a decade, and I called him and asked if I could buy the pinball machine from him. He said, "No, man. It hasn't worked for years. I'll fix it up someday." Thus, my journey to start my own collection - it's never too late.
