I rank 3 modern pins as “near perfection” from 3 different decades: AFM, LOR, and now DP. As far as 2 flipper games go, these are the best ever for me. As far as the “total package” goes (layout, rules, art, call-outs, music, theme integration), these 3 are the best ever IMO. George Gomez knows how to integrate a theme better than anyone (MB, DP, LOR, BM’66). DEADPOOL is an all-time classic that speaks to players of all skill levels. My Pro is probably “bolted to the floor” for years.

American’s best pin so far. Much more flow, easy to understand rules, and a solid build. It’s a fun, casual game, and I’m happy for American. I hope this evolution continues. It’s not a BUY for me, but it’ll take plenty of my location quarters. I think this would make a solid first pin for newbies or younger kids, much more so than its contemporaries of TMNT, AIQ, GnR, or LZ. TMNT should have been that perfect pin for kids/newbies, but that layout is way too fast, tight, and unfair.

My favorite Bally Class of ‘81 pin. Amazing art, great layout, and definitely gives you the “1 more game” feel. Looking forward to a Haggis remake (hopefully). Might be my 2nd NIB pin ever. Then I can listen to both Centaur and Deadpool heckle me with each missed shot. “Bad move human.”

This is a really great, brutal, challenging game with one of the best spinner + spinner sounds in pinball. Super fast, frantic, lots of short ball times. But if you can get 1 good ball per game, drops those targets, and rip that spinner, it is rewarding as hell. Wish Stern made more of these, but happy I have one on location a few miles from home.

Strip it down, narrow that flipper gap, let Lyman code it from scratch, and then you might have a top 20 game. It’s a shame, b/c the theme, art, and callouts are near perfection.

As a beginner pin-baller: hated it.

3 years in, below-average tournament player (getting a lot of free games on location): disliked it.

6 years in (2021), fairly skilled pinhead: really starting to like it. A lot.

2023: top 7 pin, all-time. Crank It Up!

Summary: this is a shooter’s pin. You must have excellent control and accuracy. Once you can have some long ball times, and open up this game, it becomes very rewarding. I hope it continues to grow on me as I improve. I’m glad I stuck around.

Not perfect in any way, but the fun factor and ramp shots keep me coming back. For its time, it would have been a top 10 DMD game based on layout design and flow. It’s in my favorite Seattle barcade, and I rarely leave without playing a game or 2, despite 20 other higher rated, modern machines available. More fun to shoot than Addams Family or Funhouse in my opinion. Comparable to Taxi as an 80’s DMD lower-end classic with plenty of flow for its time.

Favorite music/band integration ever probably. AC/DC fits pinball intensity perfectly. Amazing coding & rule set.

I think this is actually a fun, simplistic game to shoot. Total throwback. My comments would be:
-compared to classic EM games from 50’s-70’s: Beatles is the best (it shoots better, smoother, more flow; but has the same old school feel; not fair I know, but those should be the games we’re comparing it to)
-the music and variety would score 6/6 if the Beatles would have allowed Stern to insert complete songs instead of short clips
-it’s bright, beautiful, and easy to understand immediately
-it can’t have the same lastability as new games with complexity, ramps, deep rules, etc; but it might be more fun than most on your first few coin drops
-sure, it’s expensive, but Stern has to turn a profit and this license is the most expensive in history. So no complaints.

Another classic Bally: all flow & fun. Amazing callouts from Elvira. Solid DMD animations. And one of the best backglass gimmicks ever created. The task-oriented rules also add some variety to the game and shots. Classic. Here’s hoping Stern can recreate an Elvra 3 that is 75% as good as Scared Stiff.

Solid high-flow game. Just really fun to shoot. Not into the theme, art, music as much as other 90’s Bally/Williams classics, but still a big fan. This layout would make a great re-theme option.

Love this game, even though I still suck at it. It’s so challenging and intense and immersive, I just keep dropping my quarters in. Best sound and sound quality ever. Great soundtrack, great linear gameplay. It’s a true modern “throwback” on layout & shots. The ball lock in ingenious. Only one complaint (and it is apparently a very common one): the scoop is too difficult and unforgiving. I feel like 4 out of 5 times I’ve hit the scoop perfectly, but it only drops in 2 out of 5 times. Aside from that, it’s an instant classic.

Flow. Flow. Flow. Love to shoot this game. In my top 10-15 games for sure. The Trek callouts and are great. And only Attack From Mars rivals it for light show/sounds/vibrations when you are starting multiball or achieving something cool.

Best wide-body ever. Great flow, fun sounds and animations, and solid theme integration. The mine escape mode is my favorite backbox animation mode of any game. A well-rounded machine that is always satisfying & fun to play.

I wish more games could integrate a moving goalie style, vara-target mech into the playfield as great as WCS. There are some layout and rule “flaws” to this game which do drive me crazy at times, but the overall fun factor and soccer theme bump this game way up the leaderboard for me.
