"You will not be able to buy just one"....those words echoed in my ears as I shelled out $800.00 for my first pinball machine. "Yeah right" I told my wife as we drove away from the seller house, "one is enough for us".
Six months, Five thousand dollars and four pinball machines later my wife is asking about counseling for pinball addiction, we are planning a garage sale to make room in the basement (dubbed the game room) and I am running out of excuses to buy new machines (the kids will enjoy it is played out and this will be the last one was used for number 3 and 4).
Truth be told both my wife and children enjoy playing pinball and we like having the "cool" house so the kids can have their friends over to play. Most of all I love pinball, playing them, polishing them and admiring them takes me away for a couple of hours from the stressful situations at work and helps me relax.
I enjoy reading about pinball, buying parts and supplies to fix, refurbish and enhance them and most of all talking about pinball with others that share the same passion (ie: pinsiders). But is it an addiction? Well I am at work writing this story right now, pinside forum is up on a discussion board, eBay is in the background and Craigs list is checked as a daily task on my outlook calendar. Addicted to pinball....Maybe just a little.
