I'm glad to have grown up playing pinball. As a very young kid, I played in the few remaining dark, musty arcades of the early 2000s. I grew up in the bowling alleys and bars that were home to pinball in the mid to late 2000s. I've been attending my local pinball expo since it's inception in 2011, and I bought my first pinball machine, a Bally Flash Gordon, shortly after.
I was thrilled when my city got it's very own barcade, House of Targ, in 2014. It was the perfect combination of my love of pinball and my love of punk and metal. I've introduced countless friends to pinball and arcade gaming at House of Targ, and it's become like a second home to us. My city recently saw the opening of a second barcade which specializes in older machines (EM and early SS), and with that, it feels like Ottawa is quickly becoming the pinball capital of Canada.
I feel blessed to live in a city where my childhood hobby has become a full-fledged phenomenon, and I look forward to many more years flipping away.
