I guess we've all been there, right? You're a little kid, and you see something that makes an impression on you: a movie, a game, or a TV program that presents you with something new and exciting, something that for some reason sticks with you. You get obsessed with it and think, "One day...".
I've had many childhood dreams, and one by one I fulfilled them. Visiting New York? Check. Visiting Tokyo? Check. Buying a Gibson Les Paul? Check. Owning a Stormtrooper costume replica? Check...
But there was one dream that resisted me, that for one reason or another, I was unable to fulfill: own a pinball machine.
There was always something, some reason, that denied putting that checkmark on my life accomplishments. It was really frustrating. But still, I was patient. I resorted to the mantra that kid always repeated: one day...
Well, that wait's over: on September 22nd, 2024, I became the owner of a Pinball Champ machine (made in 1984 by ASSA in Spain, with a Zaccaria license). It's a bit beat up but in working condition. But above all, it's my first machine.
I don't know if this will be my only or my last machine. I hope not. I loved many machines (Xenon, Flight 2000), machines I spent a lot of time with and spent a lot of money on. Machines that are part of my happiest moments and that I would like to own one day.
But this Pinball Champ is the first. And you never forget your first one.
