I sort of stumbled into pinball. While I was building out a dedicated home theater I thought it would be cool to have an arcade lobby for my home theater.
So I went to a local yearly auction in Baltimore. I bought 3 arcade machines.
- 1941
- Pit Fighter
- Mortal Kombat II
The next year, I was thinking that it would be really cool to get a pinball machine. I was a child of the '80s arcade era. I didn't play pins as a kid. (Other than Haunted House here and there). So I went to the auction and bought a Shaq Attaq. (I didn't know any better). Fast forward one year and I wanted more pins. I was still a pin newbie, but this time I did better. I picked up a Frankenstein and a Star Trek Next Gen. The rest was history.
I would go on to purchase many more games and would strip every one down to the wood. I was super meticulous about condition. I also swapped games often. I kept my collection to 5 pins (at one point I was up to 6) Over the next few years I went through:
Frankenstein
Johnny Mnemonic
World Cup Soccer
The Shadow
Twilight Zone
Creature From the Black Lagoon
Tales of the Arabian Nights
Lord of the Rings
The Simpsons Pinball Party
World Poker Tour
Star Trek: The Next Generation
Sopranos
Family Guy
Scared Stiff
Cirqus Voltaire
Monster Bash
Medieval Madness
Theatre of Magic
When my kids came along, I trimmed back to 4 games as I didn't have time to work on them.
Batman Dark Knight
Iron Man
Spiderman
Transformers
That collection stayed stagnant until my kids became a bit older. I am back in and all in at that.
My collection is:
Iron Man (The only hold over from my long hiatus from buying new pins)
Jurassic Park Pro
Star Wars Pro
Stranger Things Pro
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pro
Mandalorian Premium (Currently on order, hope to have it before Aug 2021)
