In the 1980's I used to used to pass pinballs by in the arcades. I was a video game kid, and they didn't interest me.
My love for the arcades got me into building MAME cabs a few years ago.
A local guy with a basement full of arcades and pins offered to pay me
to set up a MAME for him, and I took a 1975 Top Score as trade for the work I did. The rest is history. I got hooked right away.
What has really kept me in the hobby is that my dad loved the pins when I
was a toddler, and it's turned out to be something we now have in
common and enjoy together.
Ironically, I still have a soft spot for the video games of my youth,
but I've found they don't have a fraction of the staying power of pins.
I play my pins every day, and I never tire of them. I may play Donkey
Kong or Burger Time for 3 hours over a weekend, and I'll have gotten my
fix for 6 months.
