I
took my son to hockey practice last week and a South Park had appeared
at the rink. Never seen a pin there before. Looks fully functional. I
am playing it and a guy comes up behind me and asks why I plugged the
game in. I say I didn't, it was already on. He goes on to say he has
complained to the rink owners about the adult game and that they assured
him it would be left off and no children would be exposed to its
language (it has the mild language set). He points up at the backglass
and says "See, they even put a sign on it, that says this game should
not be played by anyone."
15 minutes later he comes back over
and says he really would appreciate my not exposing the children to this
game. There are five small kids watching me play. I ask him if these
children's parents are in the arena and he says "yes, they are all over
by the snack bar." I ask him if maybe he should have them move their
children away from the machine rather than blame the person playing it.
He says that's not the point and walks away. I am still waiting on his
point.
This morning, same place, same machine. I am playing
it for a while because the replay is low. Eventually I stop and a woman
behind me says "Finally, I thought you'd never stop, my daughter has
been waiting all this time." She never said anything. I would have
given the little girl my replay credits if I had known she was
waiting... and then it hits me. Friday night I get lectured about how
bad the theme is and saturday morning there is a parent aggravated that
her 4 year old can't get onto the machine fast enough.
I guess you can't please everybody, or in this case, anybody at all.

Just put the game on mute.
