Saw a Pinball in the back of a garage, asked about it, and came hom e with it for $100.

Data East Pinball... Hook. Pristine, but wont boot up., came with a complete extra set of boards, extra display, and a tub full of spares

Finally got a test eprom to diagnose the main  board.

Opened it up and on the edge of playfield it says " Amblin" "Eng Prototype" -001 dated 11-06-91 Serial # 46949 for USA

Can't wait to get into it and find the issue. I think it is a bad PIA.

Any and all input for this first time owner is welcome. I have tech skills, and can do fine solder work.

One hundred dollars? Is that a typo?! If not, WOW, that's amazing, despite the machine not booting up. Sorry I can't help you troubleshoot, but congrats on a heckuva bargain.

Wow great haul. If you're luckier still it may have the prototype backglass with the holographic Tinkerbell, see the pics on ipdb to verify

yes, 100 is not a typo. I just got a test eprom, and hope to do some diagnostics soon.

and sadly, the wiring for the tinkerbell seems to be there on back pane, but no motor or disc.

I thought the Amblin Eng Prototype tag was very interesting on the edge of the playfield. It seems some of the wiring is not as dressed and neat on top of the playfield as a production unit would be.

If all else fails, I have a spare complete set of boards I can send out for repair.

I even gave previous owner visitation rights to come and play once repaired.

Hoping to get it fixed by Christmas. Will update as I explore.
