I just recently got bitten by this awful bug known as "Pin Disease".
Prior to Pinball I was a huge video game player/collector. I grew up with Atari and since then have always been on the cutting edge of videogames. Pinball was never my thing, until...
Farsight Studios released the Williams Collection. I picked it up and immediately fell in love with the controls (I started with the Wii version). Then I started to really enjoy the back story on all these pins and it made me realize how full of Americana pinball is.
So much like my love for all things truly american like baseball, jazz music, drive in movie theatres and old hollywood movies I took the plunge and thus far am having a blast. It feels like a part of history that is slipping away, and it makes me feel like Im passing this love to my kids to hopefully keep it going and pay it forward.
There is something really cool about playing these games with other people that gives it a broader range of appeal over video games. I don't know if it's the beguiling sounds of the pop bumpers, chimes and electronic sounds, or if its the lights and the colors hypnotizing us with their flashing, or if its the seemingly simple concept of a little silver ball that transcends into a rich rule set and competition of either you "against" the ball or flowing "with it.
