great theme, really like how it followed comic books more than movie. Very fun theme IMO. Placement of some of the toys and such bothered me in the shot layout. Overall, fun game though

WOW!!! This machine just keeps getting better the more I play it!!! It is insane!

Ever since I brought this in, my whole collection has been getting ignored. I will obviously go back and give those other gems some love, but holy cow is XMEN LE AMAZING!!!

WHY? Since v1.51 The rules are righteous! Collect X-Men to fight Magneto. The more heroes you collect the better you fight! And combo the X-Men for big points!!! Too perfect. Combo enough and Deadpool joins the fight! Woo Hoo!

All this ... and then I discovered Pinball Browser! It was as if that software was designed for a gem like X-Men. I now have a different custom song for each X-Men character. And for each Villain! Friends marvel at the kick ass music on my machine! Foreigner's Cold as Ice is a must for Ice Man by the way! Try sticking in some Prodigy for Cyclops!

This machine doesn't only have the "one more game" effect, it has that Tron RUSH feeling!!! I dare say, maybe even more so than Tron.

You get rewarded for not just starting modes, but completing them. When you complete 4 or 5 X-Men modes in a game ... you begin to get that insane RUSH!!!!

This is now my favorite game! Insane!

And guess what? There are only 500 of these on the planet. There are no Premiums. The Pros are missing everything. The LE's are a totally different game with the moving ramp, Nightcrwaler pop up trolls, and spinning disk! Only 500 with all those toys. That means super rare!!!

This is turning into the game I am best at. I have GC score on both TigerLaw machine and our neighbors machine. I finally figured out the complicated rule scheme. This game is all about stacking and I love the theme. Gorgeous machine with a great visual effect.

I'm fine with fan layouts but this one does't work for me. Probably because the shots are so far back, and Wolverine is in your face. The callouts are also annoying. The rules, theme integration and cosmetics are good, and the whirling balls on the magnet is cool. I'm sure it's a fun pin in the home environment but there are several new and older Sterns that I think are much better including TF which also has plenty of fans and detractors..

I hated having to shoot around Wolverine. I thought it was a poor playfield layout and didn't enjoy it.

Well, i took me long time to finally sell my TRON LE, and find something else i would like to play (quite ?) the same... Only few pins remained in my head, and x-men magneto was one of them. Quickly find one in perfect state, with some mods. For sure, it made me happy, with no doubt a real similitude to the TRON playfield (inverted), but with finally a different game play & rules. After a short time playing it, i noticed that ball flow is less good, with some "blocks" (tanx to nightcrawlers), same for sound ambiance & efx, better on TRON LE which clearly bring/immerse you in the pin/movie... X-MEN takes advantage with the art design, the playfield, BG, box & DMD animations, with this return to a cartoon style, is really good, even more with the MAGNETO model, the more beautifull (for me). I quite havent played the pin with old code (and no DEADPOOL), but with the last one, i found the pin quite "easy", with already lots of wizard modes reached & completed. With no doubt, i enjoyed it, its a very good pin for sure :)

Gave this one several tries and I just can't get into it. I'm not much of an X-men fan to begin with, but theme doesn't mean much to me (particularly if it is a good pin). But this is not a very good pin, Feels more like a chore (or a bore) to play than a pleasure. Maybe I'll update it after a few more tries; but so far -no good.

Just played it again after the latest software update. HUGE difference in gameplay. Much more fun to play now. I adjusted my ratings up a bit, too.

very cool Hanzel...
Edit: after reading some of the other reviews, I feel inclined to stress a few things.
XMLE is where it's at, not pro. The software version is also important 1.51 has lots of cool extras added that really finish the game off nicely. It's not an easy or simple pin, lots of shots you actually have to practice to be able to make with any consistency. Great game.

Overall, X Men is a very fun game. I am not a fan of big bash toys so that probably is the biggest flaw to the game IMO. The art work and back glass are beautiful. The LE is so much better than the Pro due to the extra toys on the play field. I would like to pick up one of the LE's someday.

I love this theme, and the integration of it in this pin. The biggest reason this pin suffers in my ratings is the Wolverine bash toy. The proximity to the flippers effectively cuts off the entire upper left side of the playfield leaving you with not much to do with your lower right flipper aside from trying to backhand it up to the upper right. This machine has it's champions for sure. Some love it. I wanted to love it, as I'm a total comics nerd. I was actually thrilled to find it was based to he comics, and not the films. This machine gets a lot of things right, but ultimately falls short in the most important way for me. Layout.

Gets a horrible reputation, however the game is pretty awesome. Most people who bash it haven't played it or haven't played a properly working one. The artwork is great! One of the only new Sterns that doesn't use movie artwork/theme. Lots of different shots and you dont always try to complete the same objectives every time. Great theme great machine. Put on factory default settings to have the most fun with it. Happy to add it to my collection!

X-Men is a hint of a decent game. The layout appears interesting at first, but after playing it, it's hard not to notice some critical design flaws, especially the center lock, which has a tendency to drain STDM.

The modes are made less fun by requiring far too many shots to complete. All in all, it's a nice looking machine that just doesn't do it for me.

XMLE is a game that I liked when I got it, and like more and more the longer I've owned it. For the depth, variation, and quality of game play, along with the great set of features (pop-ups, spinning disk, ramps, scoops, upkick, lighting) it is incredible value for the money. This will probably be in my collection for a long, long time (not to mention that it is one of my wife's favorite games that we own.)

What a great game. First played and did not get into it . After a few more started to really get into the game . Went to the top of my want list and bought a NIB and after more time on the machine I can say it is very well integrated and one of the most fun machines I have played including my B/W games. Get one immediately

Awesome theme integration, good art, and great sound effects (I LOVE the voices). The latest rules are great with lots of fun modes to shoot as well as several great wizard modes. Lots of different shots on the playfield, but some of them are pretty tight.

I've put this rating off for a long time now because I wanted to be as fair to this game as I can be and I don't think I could have been until I healed a little. :) I'm an original pre-order X-Men LE Wolverine owner and have been through all of the ugliness that goes with that. In fact, my game sat draped under a sheet for at least a year of the time I've owned it. However, Borg is my favorite designer (and still is despite X-Men) and I totally understand where he was going with X-Men, though it never quite got there. Given even more code time it could have been one of the deepest games ever, though that wouldn't have helped it in my estimation. As is, it's pretty deep and has improved three-fold from the original release. Still, I can't get into it despite being an X-Men fan and will sell it soon.

The pros: Beautiful game all the way around. Toys all over the place, more than any game I've ever played. As inclusive of superheroes as a game can get. Three flippers and great sounds/graphics. As much as we knocked it, a lot of blood, sweat, and tears went into the coding and graphics of this game. The cons: I just don't enjoy playing it and Lord knows I've tried. Note, I'm not going into all of the board failures and Wolverine toy placement because those issues are behind us. So, I really only have one con.....I don't enjoy playing the game and I can't put my finger on why. Unfortunately, not being fun is the biggest con a game can have. At this moment I own Twister and enjoy playing it more, if that'll give you any indication of the fun factor that I feel for this game.

I know that many others have come to love the game, so I hope my rating doesn't unfairly skew others opinions. I think this is a game that you absolutely MUST play before you pay, just to be sure. Based upon what I've read in the forum, this seems to be a polarizing game that most love and a few hate, but has improved of late. I agree that it's improved a lot, but in my estimation that's from a 3 to a 6. Sorry but that's the way I feel. Please don't quit on it because of my rating, but consider yourself warned to play it a good bit before buying.

I'm giving high marks to this machine because it deserves it. Keep in mind, my opinion is based on the 1.51 code.

Game Design
- There are a TON of shots, with a load of combos to be made. The LE has the Nightcrawlers and the Iceman ramp that, in my opinion, add a LOT to the game. The 1.51 update gives SO much additional depth and strategy to X-Men. My two complaints are that the Wolverine toy can obstruct the Beast shot, and that the Magneto magnet can lead to SDTM drains. Nothing sucks more than being completely helpless from a Magneto fling down the middle.

Artwork
- Wow. Just wow. The artwork on the LE is gorgeous. I had the Magneto edition. The comic book look is what makes this machine simply magical. If you're a fan of X-Men, you'll be a fan of the look of this machine. The red really works for this machine. The splashes of color on the field mixed with the gorgeous Magneto backglass? Incredible. Really happy with ALL of the art on this game. And the DMD is a blast to watch - so many sweet animations that fit and work with this game. The villains, the heroes, the fluff...Amazing.

Sounds and Music
- The callouts are great. The voices are spot on. The music is catchy and something you'll find yourself humming around the house. I loved the drop when you triggered Wolverine, the build when you trigger Magneto, the crystal palace feel of Iceman, the battle themes of various villains...The music really helps this game shine. And given the number of modes going on, there are just SO many tunes to make you smile. Great sound package in this game.

Other Aspects/Closing Remarks
- The lighting on the LE is insane. I love how the GI changes with whatever villain you're fighting. The flicker when you trigger Magneto was really sweet the first time it happened. The theme plays great - if you're a fan of X-Men, you will love the game. There's no way to argue otherwise in my opinion. It's fan service theme work at it's finest. The depth of this game will also keep you coming back - and it's TOUGH. An average player can enjoy the variation of shots to be had, whereas the veteran will have to REALLY work for high scores. But the biggest thing that makes X-Men worthwhile is that it's a blast to play. I never got sick of triggering the Iceman ramp, hitting the Xavier scoop, looping Phoenix or Beast...Just an amazing game.

X-Men is a killer game. I think it got a lot of heat early on because of the code issues. 1.50+ code really turned this game into something special. If I could afford to hold two $5k+ machines in my collection right now, I would have NEVER gotten rid of this. One day, I'm sure Magneto will wiggle his way back into my collection.

One of my favorites. Now that new code update is out, it's even better. Great game that's a blast to play.
