Got this one for a good price and wasn't on my radar. At first was hard to get a good game going but with practice became a lot more fun Glad I got it more fun than I thought. Now it sits with 5 other machines and gets played quite a bit. Good balance between flowing and challenging shots and the ski lift and slalom toys are cool. Fun game to play with lots of callouts. Bit challenging to master (at least for me)

I think there is value in this pin from a cost vs features perspective. I have this in a collection of 12 machines

Pros
- The funniest callouts I've heard to date. Really entertaining and adult oriented. Could be re-themed to SKI SCHOOL (1991) and it would sound intended.
- Overall sounds is great. Music is subjective, but sound quality in general is good
- 5 Missions or challenges and multi ball. 5 missions are significantly more enjoyable than trying to achieve multiball or use the lift
- Pretty fast game
- Looks impressive in a game room because of the hill and ski lift
- The gap between flippers is large which forces players to learn how to use the middle save post near the drain hole. This can be avoided over time by learning where NOT to shoot

Cons
- The gap between the flippers might be off-putting to some
- The ski lift is a cool feature and rather impressive in execution. The problem, which might be changable in settings but I haven't found it, is that after every drained ball you have to wait while the ball at the top of the hill rolls down to drain. It's really annoying after a while to the point I purposely try to avoid using the ski lift. I prefer speed in games and don't want a 10 second delay after a ball drains
- I'm not sold on the layout. I feel like the sum of the parts is less than the individual parts. A lot of cool shots but it doesn't flow well.
- The ski lift can be hit on the first shot of each ball pretty easily. That being said, as mentioned above, it might not be worth shooting after a while so this problem would resolve itself or become less of a con if the ball remained on the hill after a drain

Overall an impressive game for the price. On the surface more impressive than most System 11 games but after digging in you realize it's more style over substance. Don't get me wrong, with so many of these machines being really close in quality and features one must really nitpick in reviews to help differentiate, but this is still a pinball machines which makes it great and a good one at that.

Gotta say this is a true guilty pleasure game. I doubt anyone truly loves the pointy gottlieb flippers from this era. The ruleset leaves a lot to be desired in both depth and balance, and the art is more than a couple notches below the Bally/Williams standard of the era. But where this game excels is in its approachability and excellent gimmicks. The ski lift, and shaking downhill mech bring the theme together and are very fun and cool moments. Casual players love it, and even as a seasoned player, I will always put a couple games on it when I see one in the wild.

I have vague memories of this table being at my local campground's game room one year, but I'm glad I got to re-experience it via the Pinball Arcade. I really like how they've taken advantage of the winter sports theme, and the music is very enjoyable. Funny how the guy with the surfer (or skier/snowboarder, in this case) accent isn't annoying. However, it is a little too simplistic for the time, as while this is a satisfying table, there aren't really any major goals to come back to work towards. Overall, a surprisingly good late Gottileb outing!

Just kind of a "meh" game for me. Played a couple times and that was good enough for me. Really wanted to like this game, it has a cool playfield layout, but ruleset wasn't easy to follow and the gameplay just didn't have good flow to it.

its a good game. the ski lift and avalanche are fun gimmicks. I found the shots to be easy and fun which I like in a game. Im not a snow boarder but i think its a good execution of the theme.

My first pin, purchased off Craigslist years ago... it was a ton of fun and keeps you entertained. Call outs could get old after a while but the slalom and chairlift were cool features.
Great starter and players pin to start a collection.
If you can find one cheap it should be a hit with the kids, especially of the are X-games fans.

Very fun game specialy when you have a party or apre ski party in your gameroom.
The music and call outs are great for the snowboarding theme.
The shots are not difficult only the left shot rip the grud is a challence to hit.
The light show is nicely done with great flashers.
Very nice and fun toys like the ski lift and the slalom on the right side of the playfield.
It is great family fun in the winter and buy another theme pin for the summer party’s.

I owned a Wipe Out for several years. The features and sounds will catch your attention and either pull you in or push you away fairly quickly. The problem is that even if it pulls you in, you probably aren't going to stay long if you are more than a casual player. The game is just too boring and did not have that 'one more game' lastability quality for me. Kids like this machine. Snowsports people like this machine. Those who haven't played it 100 times like this machine. As other reviews have mentioned, this game does have some positive qualities; I just didn't find them compelling enough to consider keeping the machine. And while mine left my possession well over a decade ago, I doubt I would even play one again if found out in the wild.

Here’s the deal: wipeout is a brilliant game for the novice player, newbies or friends that come over, or the mid level player that wants to feel like they can play a strategic game and score big. It’s not for the professional that wants a massively deep rule set with challenging shots every time!

Newbies and friends: it’s fun. It’s a good theme. People will love to play it. The shots are easy by most standards, and the ball times are a bit longer because there are no obvious side drains and the middle post will keep that ball in play. The ski lift and slalom are quite clever and this game will entertain. It won’t be frustrating to play.

Mid level players: there is Strategic sequence to the game. Multi ball avalanche will bring up super jackpots and a triple Super jackpot. You can keep hitting the slalom after multiball for great bonuses. Play the rounds, after racking up high points, get to the hot doggie round and double score. Some people think this is Imbalanced scoring, but if you can execute to this level...it’s not any different than a game that gets you to $100M super jackpots like Fishtales that jet your score too! The point is it takes some strategy and ball control to get here, and so a mid level player can feel like they’ve got the control given that shots are generally easier and balls don’t auto drain. Because of this, the game just keeps calling you for another!

Advanced pro: you’ll find the shots easy to make. You’ll feel like Lebron James playing in the NBA. So if you want to be challenged and to be penalized for missing a shot by 1/8”...ain’t gonna happen. But it doesn’t make the game bad. It just makes the game a better fit for a different type of player!

I consider this table as a guilty pleasure of mine. Its rule set is a bit too simple, but the skiing theme and gimmicks (ski lift and slope) are pretty original. What I really enjoy is the music and the wise-cracking announcer.

Disclaimer: I like snowboarding so of course I'm going to like this pin... it really is a pretty unique game with some cool shots and decent rules. I think it's one of gottliebs best efforts though again I might be biased because I love the theme. Like all gotliebs of this era it has some scoring balance issues and the attract sounds are awful even if kind of funny. Luckily that can be adjusted in game settings as well as scoring adjustments. The art is nothing special but works well with the game and the sound package over all is very decent. Hilarious call outs and wipeout playing in the background. Solid 8/10 in my opinion

Initially this seemed like a keeper, but what really killed it for me was the "SHOOT THE BALL" callout after making the Ski Lift shot. That drove me nuts. And "This is a psycho path". There were other annoying callouts, and I don't want to listen to the song Wipe Out, either. This is all personal preference, but I don't think I'm alone here. Having said that, there are equally many other callouts that are hilarious and make me smile.

Actual gameplay is fun, but not deep. Do the 5 modes (or don't). Lock balls for multiball (or don't!). And progress through slope difficulty (Green, Blue, etc.) by making the same few shots over and over again. None of the shots are particularly difficult. There's no ballsave, so be on point when you release the plunger.

The Slalom feature requires perfect setup for it to work as intended. I succeed probably 60% of the time, so it's slightly better than pure chance. The Release Slalom light on the right outlane is a nice take on the save gate.

In summary, a decent and amusing game, but it wore thin for me in less than a month.

For some reason I keep coming back to this one. Well done theme. the avalanche multi ball and the ski lift are pretty damn awesome. Slightly easy to reach wizard mode especially to today’s standards. Love the back glass.

The call outs are hilarious and well done. The "ski lift is open" call out does get repetitive, but otherwise excellent. The ski lift is a cool feature and the slalom course is unique and really fun. There could be more shots, but it works well with what there is. I sold this game and my wife really missed it so I bought it back. This is one of the only games she has missed and that speaks volumes. When this game is shopped out properly it is very fun. The shots are easy, but that is what makes it a great family game.

Just purchased this game a few weeks ago on a whim. I seem to enjoy a lot of the under-rated early 90's Gottlieb and Data East games - and this is no different. This game doesn't have a very deep rule set, but it's just FUN. The artwork is cool and the ski lift is really awesome. The main music is "Wipe Out" naturally. There are some funny call outs "Maybe you should get your mother and have her help you ski!" and the loud "AVALANCHE!!!!!!!!". I have this game and 22 other games in my business, and I'm noticing a lot of people gravitating to this one and being surprised by how fun it is. I think I'll be holding onto this game for a while!

I received this pin in a package deal. I intended to immediately turn around and sell it. After posting it for sale and receiving numerous offers I decided to keep it after actually putting some quality time on it. It plays very well for its price and is extremely fun. Great starter pin or filler game to relax on as games can be quick. The ski lift and hill are great toys and implemented well. The rules are decent, nothing deep but easy to understand. Guests seem to gravitate towards it and enjoy it's simple appeal. The DMD animations are awful but easily overlooked for this price. It'll be staying for a while.

This game just isn’t fun for me. Rules don’t make sense and scoring is very unbalanced. It’s amazing comparing this to a Williams of the same era. Call outs get SO annoying. Not recommended unless the price is right.

Surprisingly fun game that was my fist and for me its a keeper. Looks kinda weird if you are used to Bally Williams but it not a bad cheaper game and is a nice contrast to the others. Easy to work on and reliable but a lot of Gottlieb system 3s seem to have play field wear down near the flippers. The scoring can be a bit unbalanced but this does play fast and fun when given a bit of love. Call outs are funny but do get a bit repetitive.

WipeOut was a fun title for the short time it was in my collection. I do enjoy the Gottlieb system 3s…
This one is rare enough, and being that my first game ever was a bally Hottdoggin, this was the major upgrade of that theme.
The rules were simple and had plenty to shoot for. Perfect pin for a family game room.
I loved the funny call-outs the most. And the main toys (ski lift and ski hill) are really make the game unique. You don’t see this title come up for sale often, but it’s cheap enough and fun enough to give it a shot.
