Played this at the Pinball HOF in Vegas, and it held up very well with every game around it. I thought the flow was good, and play was fast and fun. Plenty of shots, but I did think there was a little too much going on in the art. Toys look good too!

I played the pro version. The game is very beautiful all around but the play field was lacking in things to hit with the ball. I think the LE model would be alot funner and I would probably rank it better if I ever got to play one.

Love the fact there are no actors on the backglass, which is really vibrant. Don't care for the playfield art at all. Cluttered and dull. The game is fun to play, some nice flow and ramps. Multiballs etc are a blast. Overall fairly good but not exceptional. I played the Pro version.

Game lighting is great. Sounds are great, including the gunfire sounds when ball is bouncing around in the pop bumpers. I like that you can select between playing autobots or decepticons. Art work is acceptable for the theme. I enjoyed playing it, and would like to play it some more.
Edited to be for just the pro model.

I finally got to plat a Transformers pro and a Transformers Autobot edirion...The pro was fast but next to the LE looked like a lame duck. I loved the LE, I loved the gimmicks, Starscream,Ironhyde playfield. Pretty good rules set, game has a high level of difficulty. It is actually the first machine I have considered for a NIB. I am also a Transformers addict due to being 8yrs old when they cam out in 1984.....so I am a little bias. Still even if you was not..it's a solid game..I love all the extras on the LE, I can actually see the value of the LE over the PRO...LE all the way

i would not recommend this machine. layout is lame, no flow, gimmic
ks are sad. all on all i think stern didn't give this pin enough. there was so much awesome potential and i must say, out of the 40, 50 our so games i played on it, i was not impressed at all, no matter how many chances i gave it.

Get's a lot of flac, but totally undeserved. I'm a little biased because i'm a hugh Transformers fan, but aside from that the game is very good in it own right. When the final patch up is complete, i have no doubt this will be a classic for me!

My review is based on the pro model. Liked the Megatron multiball and kickout, but the toy looked really lame compared to the other two. Optimus didn't register all hits, but was fun to bash. Lower playfield seemed dark - LED's in the LE would really help brighten it up. I had a lot of fun playing the game, but there was a disconnect as others have noted in the rules. It didn't seem like there was any reason to hit the shots in the mode other than because the software told me to. No real progress towards something. Flow was good. Had a "one more game feel" to it, as there is a real challenge to it. Overall, pretty solid.

30Apr14 Update. Now that I've had Transformers for a while I've tired a little of it and will lower my score a little bit accordingly. I fixed the Allspark rejects with dead ball foam. But the game is still a lot of "work" to progress and gets very little play at home now compared to Tron, Avengers, and Sopranos.

Original Rating: I have a little over a hundred plays on my Combo LE, so I think I can provide some fair thoughts now. First, I'm running s/w 1.4 and have installed the kit from Stern that stopped the ball launches into the glass and included good flipper rubbers. I like it and I'm playing it a lot lately and don't see it leaving my collection anytime soon. I don't love it though, so let's start with my three biggest gripes before getting into the good: (1) Half the time my Ironhide playfield is running without my ball in it because so many shots only go half in, yet still activate it (2) Though I've improved my technique, still only about half my shots to the All-Spark stick (3) What's up with 10 or 11 shots being required for the modes? Bumblebee and Mudflap/Skids, I get, but what does such a high number of shots equate to other than repetition? Does the number mean something, like how many other robots they've fought, kind of like when Optimus rattles off all of the Decepticons he's battled?

Now the good. This is a beautiful game and extremely well lit. It's got great call outs and lots of speed. Being able to play it two different ways (Autobots or Decepticons), is very refreshing. Megatron really pumps the balls out and they don't all go SDTM, so cudos to the designer of that contraption. Yes, it's a fan layout, but nicely done and the integrated shaker makes it feel like a very substantial machine. They captured the Starscream, Blackout, and Rachet sounds nicely.

I do hold out hopes that they'll polish the s/w a little and maybe lower the number of mode shots while adding a few simple call outs to try and make sense of why you need to hit the various ramps, orbits, etc., so many times for each robot. As an example, with Blackout, after each shot call out a battle scene or other important event he was in like: Destroying Qatar Air Base, Forest fighting Optimus, Downtown fighting Nest Team, etc. For Starscream, they could point out all the times he's flown away when Megatron needed him most. :)

Please don't let my constructive criticism dissuade you, if they fix the Ironhide playfield and add some sense to the modes, I could see this being one of Stern's best, in fact, many reviews here already think so. If you like the theme, you probably wouldn't be disappointed with this game. For me, it's a keeper and if they could take care of just a few of the things I've mentioned here, it could be great.

This is a good Pro-game. Maybe even better than LE/Premium.

I have played both the pro and the LE and I think I prefer the pro version. The two upper playfields don't really do much but slow the ball down. Yeah, the right one does the shake back and forth for one mode but that is it. And the pro doesn't have that ball launching drop target. I also like the normal BG better than the standard LE one. The new style cabinet graphics look tons better than the old way. I like that the playfield artwork looks like it is drawn and not just a cut and paste from the movies. The game felt solidly built compared to recent games but both games I played had serious leg wrinkle on the decals. This game is pretty quick, much more than I thought it would be.

My micro-mini review is based on the Pro model and would be slightly higher if it were the LE. I'm a casual player and have played it about 10 times at the local pinball arcade (Pinballz) here in Austin. Ramps and shots are very smooth and fairly easy to hit. My only complaint is that balls shot to the scoop wouldn't register and would prompt a 2 minute ball search on a regular basis. I did not factor that into my ratings. The rules seem very good and I enjoyed my time on this game. Backglass looks very nice.

Updated to remove comments pertaining to the LE model.

I have only played the Pro a few times, but it was good enough to make me go out and buy a combo LE.

Having played the Pro version a few times in the arcade I now feel ready to rate this one. To tell the truth, it's OK but not as exciting to play as Tron, but I do like the way the balls get thrown hard out of the Megatron scoop at the start of Megatron multiball. I missed out on the Transformers toys and cartoons as a kid, being just a little bit too old, so the theme doesn't mean a lot to me.

After a second session with this machine, I have to readjust my rating: it still isn't going to be one of my all-time favorites, but it's fun to play.

Biggest problem I have that prevents me from considering buying it: The machine itself is butt-ugly for my taste.

Great theme and good to see it without all the movie actors in it. A different game for Stern that I.think will do very well on location.

The problems with transformers are all in the ruleset. It's simply too hard to actually get anywhere. First, point scoring is horrible. Multiballs are not worth much at all. Most points come from completing the modes. Completing the modes is actually a lot of fun. Unfortunately, you have 10 shots to make in some 30-45 seconds (depending on the difficulty level). This is a very short amount of time to complete 10 shots. Further, if you lose the ball, the mode is lost. If the time expires, you lose the mode. Finally, you get nothing for starting the mode. This is the only game that gives you nothing for starting a mode. Take tron, for example. If you start each mode but do not complete it, you get sea of simulation instead of portal. At least it's something. Star trek, you can still get final frontier but without the crystals it's not worth much. Monster bash, you can get monster bash but not monsters of rock. Etc, etc.

If the time was removed on the modes and the losing the ball removed, the game would probably be pretty fun. Probably a simple SW change that will never happen.

This is based on LE. I have Decepticon #35. fast flowing game. I don't like the drop target many air balls. I don't like the clearcoat job they did. I like the theme. The sound is great. The game play is as fast as Spiderman I think it is as good as Spiderman. It is a very fun pin. Hope the code fixes a lot of the problems. I hope they fix the drop target.

Played about 20 games of TF. The game was sandwiched in between SM and LOTR LE so while the looks are as good as it gets, the gameplay kept me going back to SM and LOTR. Love the looks, but would play many other machines before this one.
