Simple but fun. Intuitive game play for guests. Great music.

My friend and I used to play this game on location and had a blast with it. It's a 'street level' Gottlieb (no ramps), so you can't set your expectations TOO high, but it's got some unique features to set it apart from other games. There are 5 flippers and 3 distinct parts of the playfield, with both upper corners feeling like their own mini-playfields. The most memorable feature is probably the backbox game with the 2 animated boxers. This works similar to 'Lights, Camera, Action!', where you have to time your punches to knock the other boxer's block off. The difficultly also increases as you progress. Some great sound effects (including a real ring bell like 'Fire!') and callouts in this game too, which we often quote like "That's a ball-buster!" and "Bring in the stretcher!".

I've read chatter about this being a bad tournament game because of some easily repeatable shots, but it doesn't seem so easy on my machine. I got mine a few years ago... in a drywall bucket. Someone was going to restore it, but never finished. I got a blank playfield and mostly empty cab and rebuilt the whole game from grainy internet photos. I have a couple extra posts left over after the build (why does that always happen? haha), but she plays great.

This one of our favorite Gottliebs of the era. The playfield is packed with shots and there is always something to shoot for. Old school backbox animation, multiball, challenging shots and great theme make it a solid winner in my book. Sure there are no ramps in this one but who cares when it plays oh so good.

well, as said in my comment (hi-score), i have played this game for the 1st time yesterday on a tournament... as C. George was playing another match on it just before me, i simply watched him to learn his strategy, which was more than simple & easy : launch the ball to the upper left PF, play there, when ball came down to the left flipper, hold it, ball jump to the right, simple control and aim for the upper left PF again... and sometimes when this goes bad and you have ball on left flipper, aim for the right upper loop... all this again & again & again & again... until you quickly get bored ! than, for my 1st game on it, i just did that, playing 1 hour or so, rounded the clock, and letting the 3rd ball draining as evbd was waiting... oups ! sorry for those who are loving it, but for sure its not for me ;)

i don't know what it is about this game play that i absolutely love. likewise the play field seems so natural and the shots and goals so clean. most games i top out at about seven to nine games in a row. with my favorites it usually comes to around twenty-four. i have in one stretch played forty-one games in a row of this. most of gottlieb (premier) from this era is a huge disappointment for me, but i always miss having the opportunity to get better at this game.

Simple but fun. Game has a certain charm that makes up for the lack of bells/whistles.

Another Street Series game that has some different shots to play on it.

The Pros:
Very interesting shots all over the PF. Some are tight and require a bit of skill. Considering there are three areas of "play" on this design, there is an incredible amount of variance in the real estate of this deck. The mini-pf is challenging. BG animation on a street series game? Why not? The punching animation is a skill shot within itself.

The Cons:
Game can get stale if not maintained as it should be. For all of the paths along the PF, this deck can feel clunky. Ray Tanzer had some interesting ideas, they just did not come together that well on this game.

The Takeaway:
An interesting game, if you like it... play it or get it. I'm still not convinced that this game will ever be in my collection even as more of a novelty table.
