Street Fighter II is one of my favorite arcade games of all time. The pinball version, however, I was less than impressed with. One game was enough for me to know I didn't like it.

I got this machine and my X Men LE on the same day, I ended up playing this more. I think its a lot of fun and really captures the theme of the video game.
The flippers on my game, and all the others i have seen are pretty weak though, the Chun-Li shot is near impossible.

I own this and am very happy to have it. I grew up playing the video game and love how that is brought into the pinball version. Having to "fight" all the players in the video game in the pinball version is very cool.

The champions challenge is NO joke. Even to trigger it is hard, then completing it is another story. You need to hit every shoot on the game in one ball! Not an easy task on 3 let alone 1.

DMD is helpful, but the graphics are below average...I take that back...Terrible. Since it was an innovative VIDEO game I expected the DMD to be better. If the DMD was better and full color this game would blow people away.

Nice change of pace, challenging and fun at the same time.

Street Fighter II is a game that plays differently. It has a few unique features that I really liked once I figured them out and all things considered, this game was a nice surprise. Usually a pinball game based on a video game is the death knell for the playability of the deck.

The Pros:
A really well thought out layout and some play mechanics that will test your shot making abilities. The dual skill shot is great. The center stand up for the extra ball makes the shot a tough one. Lots of lanes and smooth ramps. The building jackpot in conjunction with subsequent multiballs means that the tougher shots in the game yield bigger points in multiball. Defeating all the opponents is not an easy task. Double scoring on lit shots re-prioritizes your table in a hurry. Kickouts from the holes on the sides of the PF can go right through the flippers, so you'd better be on point.

The Cons:
The artwork is abysmal. The audio is not much better. Dots with the different characters from the video game are not even recognizable. The Car Bash is an idea that just didn't come off that well. I don't like double your score features, but with this one you at least have to earn it with multiple shots around the PF.

The Takeaway:
To really get to know this game, I need to play it more. However, I am happy to say that I'm looking forward to getting to know this game better. We shall see what more mileage on this deck brings.

Update:
I finally got to session this deck with another player who likes it and "showed" me about this game. I have to say the more I play this deck the more game I'm finding in it and that is ALWAYS a good thing. I am really starting to enjoy the ramps with the raised entrances. The Chun-li spinner requires a good deal of timing and aiming on the right ramp to make the shot and get it past that "spinning" kick of hers. The Guile shot is just like Jack the Monkey on PotC, but is all the way up the PF. It's a hard and satisfying shot. The ninja round requires on the fly accuracy (and massive points for the third and fourth shots), but the big thing I learned about is the TORPEDO frenzy multiball round. This takes 5-6 shots to activate and can be massive points (don't tilt them out! Trust me... the tilt warning audio cue will let you know. It's impossible to miss) at the end of each ball. This round is potent enough to be unbalancing. It still takes a bit to get it started, but with double letter when lit to the sink holes on the sides of the Pf, this gets qualified pretty quickly.

Still... this game requires that the entire PF be run through to get to the wizard mode and once you reach the wizard mode, the game requires you to do so again to finish it off. This game plays great and may be the only other Gottlieb of this vintage that I'd consider putting in my collection other than Stargate. Street Fighter II is a butt-ugly lookin', great playing game. Does this game compare to the best B/W games of 1993? Nope. Does this game keep a pin-head challenged, strategized and on their toes when they step up to this deck? Yuuup! To me it feels like Capcom's Pinball Magic. It has a very specific progression throughout the game with certain "breaks" in the linear stategy of the shots you want to make. If you can pick one up for less than $800.- USD in good working condition. Do it, This table is a player!

Update V2:
When given the option, always choose multiball. This shows up every second or third choice award. Makes most of the game much less valuable. Scores reduced accordingly.

this game is under rated. yeah the dot matrix animations are terrible but who cares? The stop and choose on each feature shot is a different feel then traditional pinball but I wouldn’t say it’s a bad thing. lots of cool shots and different things to do in this game. Really enjoyed it while I owned it and kind of regret selling it now.

I didn't care for this game. Sold it a week after I bought it. Made $150 on it so I can't complain.

OK, the backglass is pretty ugly, and the playfield art isn't the best either, but this is a really good game to play, which is what it's all about isn't it??

I've always thought of this game in the same way as the Streetfighter movie, why didn't they let someone who understood the video game write the gamerules/story??? There are a lot of mistakes in the translation from video game to pin as far as story goes, but in spite of that, the game has an engaging rule set on it's own, and defeating all 12 streetfighters is not an easy task! Once you do, then you have a very challenging wizard mode, that yields huge points if you can beat the "Master"

IMO, this, along with Stargate, are the best of the Gottlieb DMD pins!!

the game is fun, you have to defeat all of the street fighter characters, it's very stop and go, but it you can get it for cheap and you have a collection of 3+ pins it's worth it. Worst toy in the world with the car and flipper underneath, baffled by it.

I loved the video game as a kid. Gottlieb stayed true to the theme of the video game which is cool in my opinion. Game play is okay, kind of slow at points but easy to figure out and the kids love it. This is more of a kids pin in my opinion, but it looks really cool...I love the art work.

SFII is a very unique pin that plays very similar to it's video game counterpart. The objective is to beat all 12 fighters and enter Champion Mode. In Champion Mode, all shots are lit and if you hit them all, you are declared the Grand Master!

Yes, the backglass is ugly. The only nice part about it is Chun-Li's butt!

I really love the color blue that's used throughout the game.

I've replaced the flasher lamps with blue LEDs and it add a lot to the lighting show.

SFII is easy to pick up and understand. It is VERY linear. It is also very stop-and-go; each time you defeat an opponent, you choose your reward with the left or right flipper button.

This is a game that everyone should play at least once because it is so unique. It's not for everyone though.

You would really have to love this game for it to last in a small collection. I feel its a GREAT fit for a large collection though.

Bought this game recently. The artwork is not the best. However, my kids keep coming back for more. The ramps elevate to get to another set of targets. The kids like destroying the car in the mini game.

If you can get back the worst backglass in pinball its actually a fun pinball to play, a good machine for beginners that you can probably pick up cheap. There are so Ok shots in this game but it lacks the big shot feature for me.

Probably the most ugly pinball ever made... even worse that TFTC, and that takes some doing!! First thing I did when I got to own this game is break it for parts... it looks so bad I couldn't even bring myself to even try anf get the thing going!!

the pinball machine street fighter 2 is old school but never gets out dated for myself, thanks to many video game depictions of the street fighter franchise to help reminisce the good old days... :)

Play the machine for what it is, a great machine, don't spend your time wondering if the artwork looks the same as the arcade game.

A not so bad pinball with the car system who is a nice feature. But the design is really horrible, any fan of "street fighter" will be disapointed by the very ugly drawings.

This is a very fun game. I think it gets a bad rap because of the terrible artwork, especially the backglass. Everybody who has come to my house to play it absolutely love it. This is definitely a don't judge this machine by its cover.

This is a license that could have been utilized so much better, but sadly it's kind of a cheap feeling game. This one feels rushed to cash in on the Street Fighter name, and while there is an occasional neat thing to see, it's largely a downer of an experience.
