Straight Shooter is a challenging game. A very challenging game. Play it for the specials, then milk it for the points. But both are hard to come by. On the surface, it looks easy - line up three inserts in a row (yellow, purple, and white) to light the specials as well as the bumpers, slingshots and rollover buttons for additional points. This is done by hitting the three targets or by going through the three roll-unders. Simple enough in theory, but not so easy in practice. Hitting the wrong target just when you are one away from lining things up will send you back to square one. And once you do get three in a row, the trick is keeping the sequence in place and scoring as many points and specials as possible while everything is lit. Because once you hit another target or go through a roll-under you, essentially, have to start all over. Roy Parker's usually excellent artwork seems a little lackluster on this one, although he certainly carries out the wild west theme (Annie Oakley/Annie Get Your Gun) well, especially on the playfield. However, unless the bumpers are lit (which is seldom) the upper half of the playfield is very poorly illuminated. Nevertheless, Straight Shooter always has me coming back for "just one more game."

A shooter's game, and even if you're really good with flippers it'll still drive you crazy. You need to line up all the targets on the same row--one slip and you're starting over. As soon as you get them lined up it's not likely you'll keep them lit for very long, and then it's time to do it all over again, and again, and again.

Very chalenging strategy game, very frustrating when you mess it up, but very satisfying when it works out... accurate shooting required to get the big credits. If your aim is out and you hit the wrong target at the wrong time, then all your effort can be scrwed up! A real credit/gambling type game... don't play for points on this or you'll not 'get' it, you have to play for credits!
