Who doesn't love a pirate theme :)
A really good layout that still holds up against modern machines.
This and JJP version of Pirates are both worth a place in anyones collection.

This game is always going to pale in comparison to the JJP version. However, the Kraken & sinking the ship is certainly fun. I found the rebounds to be maddeningly frustrating, though, and a big reason why I wouldn't want to repeatedly play this game. Definitely worth a few rounds to sink the ship, though, and everyone can enjoy that. Long term, though, meh.

Fun game but didn't have a lasting fun factor. The sinking ship is extremely cool and overall great family themed pin but just lacking to keep bringing me back for more.

I love the layout of the playfield in this game, it has a decent amount of shots Which feel good to shoot and all do something different with the ball rather then just generic ramps and loops that feed straight back to a flipper. The art package is not so great and the sound was abysmal on the one I played, which had taken a beating. Overall still a fun game with some neat gimmicks, I would probably pick one up if I found one available in good condition.

Fun pin, I like the movies so it makes this pin fun and enjoyable. Lots of shots, fast action and challenging

Have owned POTC for a few years. It is a fun machine that I still play for a casual game as a change of pace, but it is never my first choice. The shots are easy and repetitive and the rule set is shallow. But, that's the bad and really only applies to more serious pinball players. Now for the good... It is a great looking machine. The light show when you stack multiballs is really amazing. Stern did a nice job incorporating the theme. My kids and other casual players say it's their favorite! For the casual player, banging on the ship, killing the Kraken and popping the trunk are very rewarding (even if they become repetitive for an experienced player). So it's a great pin for a family of casual pinball players or as part of a collection for guests to play.

Update: Have upgraded my review slightly. I've come to realize my personal preference for pins that flow and are fast. POTC isn't a flow game. While there are plenty of shots they all hold-up the ball. I now realize I have a bias against this style and other players may actually favor it. Anyway, I upgraded my rating to try to remove my personal bias for flow vs single shot making.

This game has something going for it! Like everything is going for it!

Sink the ship. Battle the kraken. Whatever the spinning disc up top is.. that's cool! Multiball is aw some. Slick and smooth game. Great skill shots. No killer drains.

Top 10 game in my book.

After playing way more.... Always on site. The game has to be dialed in very well to really be good. It drains easy everywhere. It's really floaty for a standard pinball game. It's a lot of fun when it's tuned and well kept. It isn't a game I want to play when its not tuned and not well kept.

Another pin that requires several games before rating. At first the game seems easy but ironically becomes more challenging as your understanding progresses. Still not overly difficult but enough of a challenge completing all of the main objectives that it keeps you coming back. The ship toy is great. Not a fan of the movies but still love the theme for the machine. The machine appears to be top quality and has an overall attractive look. Removing the sneeze guard is a must.

I own this machine i feel that at times hitting the ship can be very repetitive and annoying when it goes straight down the middle, but i believe this should at least be rated in the low 30s high 40s on the top 100. Once you get going on this pinball it is an absolute blast chest is awesome kraken is cool its awesome but repetitive.

This game is an absolute blast! Shooting the ball into port royal and watching it build the progress towards multiball on the back lights is brilliant. Also I like that this game doesn’t trap you into modes like almost all other “newer” games, that it is set out as a todo list and everything can stack makes it super fun and super replayable!

Fun game, glad that I have it, but it does get repetitive.

I am in the minority, but I love this game more than JJP's version.

I used to own this game. Bought it new in the box based on the theme. I had it for several years, but then sold it and haven’t regretted it. I liked the playfield, the sound, callouts, and art. I had trouble with the ship. It needed to be repaired twice with home use and low plays on it. Lastability was an issue for me. It’s a fun game overall.

There is a lot to do in this game, but sinking the ship takes the cake! It's a fun toy/gimmick.

The lighting and artwork are also pretty fantastic.

Great game! Maximize the outlanes (remove posts), set the slings “aggressive” and you have a challenging and fun game!

Picked one up at a fantastic price and I am pleasantly surprised. Super fun pin with TONS of toys and shots. Stern really packed this thing out and is way more fun that some other Sterns ranked higher on the list.

Really lack of difficulty on this game, just like most of 2000s Stern pinball machines. I did almost 300M after 5 games. I get bored on playing machines like this. It's a shame because it has good rules and shots.

I actually enjoyed this game a lot more than I thought I would. Knowing the gap between this and the JJP POTC, I anticipated that this game would be fairly weak, but it wasn't. There are some nice toys in the playfield and some pretty cool shots. I love sinking the ship. Multiball is pretty fun with this machine too.

I really enjoy this game. It is simple enough for a fresh player to understand but deep enough for a more experienced player. if set up steep with a tight tilt this game is a real challenge. Great game to try and stack tortuga and destroy the ship (forget its actual name) multiball with. the kraken and ship are awesome toys. if you can find one at a good price this is a quality stern from around this time - i like it more than LOTR & TSPP

Really fun family game from Stern. Feels high-quality too. There's no sign of the "cheapness" that defines later Sterns. Also, let's face it, the sinking ship toy is probably the coolest Stern toy that ever was. In fact, it's the best single toy on any POTC game, including JJP's.

I really liked this game, better than I thought it would be, again one of the better sterns. Good flow, quite a lot of fun, would love to try JJP's POTC to compare.

Love this game!! My favorite Stern pin ever!

Whoever said this is a slow stop and go pin did not have it setup correctly. Add a little steepness and make sure this is level and those standup targets become deadly.

So much to shoot for, great skill shot off the plunge, many toys and added features and just a ton of fun. I never expected to like this pin as much as I do, and I don’t like the movies. It’s more of a generic Pirate theme to me, but it works really well, so much fun. A+++
