This is the pinball machine I play the most in my small collection, I really like it. High lastability, thanks to the various multiball modes (4) + Crank it up modes (4) + End of the Line wizard mode. Great music too (I'm a huge fan of Metallica). Never going to sell it.

In my personal Top 5. Play it with my son at the local pub all the time.

I’m in my “honeymoon” period with this game... I *might* score it down at a later date I guess... but right now I just can’t fault it.
Just scored 120,000,000 in about 10 minutes with three multi balls and the pace of the game is just frenetic - just like the music. MET is a perfect foil for my LOTR - short and frenetic and it has me head banging away when I should be concentrating on what to hit next.
Sparky is SUCH a well thought out toy... makes me smile every time you fry him :-D
Will be a permenant feature of my line up.

Love playing this game. I Do like the simplicity of it. Anyone can play and understand the game. Even my young grand kids can start multi ball.

Has to be in my top 3 of all time fun games. Artwork on this game is so awesome. Of course Dirty Donny is my favorite artist. It plays really fast and intense. You are out of breath after you are done. I like the hammer feature of the Prem, but like the flow better of the pro. Ive played them all and Im a little bias to the Pro because I own a Pro. I feel for the money the Pro is the way to go. However, there are good deal to be had on the Premium as well. I hardly ever see the LE pop up for sale.

Finally got one of these for my home... I'm a proud owner now. This game has it all... easy to pick up and play just to have fun for friends who come over, but also incredible depth and complexity for someone like me who's going to play over and over again. Metallica rules! Rock on!

Waaay too wood choppy. Especially if you’re trying for End of the Line.

Fun to do hurry ups and seek and destroy, but gets old.

Fun to go for Blankened, but dangerous.

Multiballs are fun but takes too long to get to some of them.

CIU modes are amazing but way to much shooting to get to them.

I’ve had the game for 5-6 months and I’m good with never playing again. Haha

This is the first game I've owned after trying different machines out for a couple years. The game is fast, fun, and challenging, which gives it a great deal of lastability. Ball times are highly varied. There are several different multi-ball modes and ways to rack up a lot of points. You can get back in contention for a high score with a single good ball so you're never really out of it.

The layout works well with the main shots being a central bash toy, two steep ramps, the snake, and inline drop targets. The Mystery mode activation scoop shot isn't easy to make intentionally, so I've found myself missing out on collecting extra balls that were earned somewhat often. A few of the shots are fairly tight and you'll get some rejections here and there. It's a very fast playing game that's throwing the ball back at you on a regular basis.

The back glass and play field artwork by Dirty Donny are great. The Pro's cabinet artwork is not as good in my opinion. Factory side blades would have been nice. Stern should sell some official ones to the aftermarket.

I'm not a huge fan of the band or anything, but their music and sound effects work well for what I consider to be a horror/monster themed pinball machine. The music definitely brings the energy and keeps things exciting. There are a lot of call outs and I haven't found any of them to be overly repetitive or annoying.

The lighting is great with LEDs from the factory on newer versions of the game. The Pro's light show isn't as good as the Premium version, but there are mods that can bring it up to the same level. I've had some issues with bulbs in a few areas coming loose, but it's easy enough to re-seat them or put some tape on the bottom of the bulb to firm up the fit.

All in all, this is a very solid machine and works well if you only have room for one pin.

I love Metallica and the music so this game speaks to me. I like the rules. I find it challenging and fun. I like trying to collect the snakes, coffins, etc. and getting crank it up. The call outs and sounds are awesome along with the music. Sparky is a great. Just a badass game!

I'm not a Metallica fan by any means, but I find this game to be pretty fun! There are enough shots to aim for, and even as a new player to this game, it's fairly easy to figure out what I should be aiming for. Multiball is a lot of fun in this game.

Great music, best call outs of any music pin, brutal fast action, challenging and pure fun. If I had to recommend a machine for a newcomer to pickup first it would be this or Star Trek Pro.

In my mind by far the coolest of the "rockband-games"! The only real downer with this game is the backbox- and cabinet illustrations which seems out of a lousy comic book!

When I was buying my first pin, I wanted something that would stand the test of time and have a deep ruleset, but also something very approachable and fun for anyone who came over to my house without previous interest or experience in playing pinball. Metallica has shown itself to be a perfect choice. Bashing Sparky, feeding the snake, hitting the grave markers, and flying around the ramps - more than one person has come away from playing it saying they want a pinball machine now. As someone who is still very much a beginner, the game can be extremely challenging, but not unfair, and it always leaves me wanting more. Almost every night I will find myself turning it off, leaving the room, and then coming back just for one more game...or three.

My review for the LE covered most of my thoughts on this game. To keep it simple, it's a great pinball machine with phenomenal art and a great ruleset...the lack of more moving toys hurts the pro but not it's flow. Not the theme for me as I don't know Metallica's music, but a players machine for sure and I love those ramps and sparky!

I'm a lifelong fan of the band. So I'm going to try and keep this review unbiased. But man, if there was a "desert island" pinball, for me, this would be it.

I put half a dozen games or so on a machine at Pintastic. The snake, the drops, the electric chair all integrated super well with the insanely good playfield art. The DMD animations made it tough for me to keep my eye on the field. The volume was set reasonably low (understandably so given the environment), but what I could hear of the call-outs and music only made me wish I could crank a copy of it at home.

Ball times seemed to me (slightly above novice player) to be perfect. If you were paying attention, and not taking too many risky shots, you could turn it into a marathon. If not, you were suitably punished.

Now, to find a place locally that will take my credit card for a used/well-loved example of this game...

I bought the game with lots of custom mods and pinstadium lighting, shaker, 12 inch sub woofer and upgraded speaker system. Fantastic fun playing every day by wife and myself and friends.

Challenging and punishing at times, but keeps you coming back for more. A modern day classic with a solid playfield layout. Addictive

Ive had this game for LED model over a year and have over 3000 plays on it. I could really write a lengthy review on this.

First I really enjoy the game. I love the layout, theme and ruleset. It has a lot of different things going on and is great for home use because it takes awhile to master all the different ways you can approach play.

My only con is the quality of the stern machine itself. I bought it brand new and had a few things go wrong with it and I felt the playfield pitted fast and the magnet mushroomed fast which caused playability problems. I have talked to a few people about the pitting and everyone seems to think this is a normal thing. Well I dont think so. I have played games in the 90s like my Judge Dredd or Popeye both of which I have in my collection with a ton of plays on them with no pitting. Stern is not trying to make their games better they are trying to make them cheaper. This was also my first machine so I was expecting a little more out of it I guess as far as quality goes. Im not sure I will buy another brand new stern machine.

The game itself is awesome and everything other than quality of the machine I cant complain about at all. It can be a drain machine at times (I have it set pretty steep and its a fast game already) and hard to get consistently get high scores. Even though I have the game I always dread being put on it in tournaments because of the consistency problems and because in my opinion only plays well when its maintained correctly. Having weak flippers or a mushroomed magnet that the ball jumps over all the time can be very frustrating. I think it is a great game to have in a personal collection though because once you finally get a run of good balls in one game and get everything stacked up it can be a very adrenaline filled intense game

Excellent pin, was our favorite at the arcade of 30 pins. Very cool theme, music and play. Has it all

Love the theme, but there could be more song choices. I like the gimmicks and toys, but was disappointed in the coffin on the pro. It seems a bit thin. Picked up the Lermods coffin mod, and it improved drastically. We've definitely played this one a ton, and it is going to stick around a while. If you like the band, this is a good machine. I'd have a hard time believing non-fans would enjoy it.

I am a fan of the band, which is probably why I find this marginally more tolerable than its nearly identical Stern brethren. That said, on location it's hella hard to hear the songs so, meh, what's the point?

Stern formula:

(1) license a band prominent in the 70's, or the 80's if you're really modern, or a super hero move
(2) clone the fan-out playfield
(3) put a cheap toy in the middle
(4) add seemingly layered rules that come down to basically bash the hell out of the toy until you get to multiball, which lasts forever with add-a-ball

Family Guy (and its clone, Shrek), Ripley's, Simpsons, and to some extent Star Trek '13 are the main exceptions; even Ripley's (Lawlor) and ST (Ritchie) are throwback designs similar to their designers' milestone pins from the 80's and 90's.

I'm not a huge Metallica music fan, but I do like some of their songs. I ignored this pin for years, before finally trying it out in a bar. I was hooked immediately by the wide open, fan layout with so many shots and a butter-smooth orbit. I had to own one. We really enjoyed this pin and I only agreed to part with it because a Tron became available and I wanted the challenge of Tron. I miss it already and it's still in my basement waiting for the Tron swap! I may own this pin again someday. I would recommend this pin to anyone and it certainly deserves it's top 10 ranking. So much to do, yet, so easy to understand and follow. Just a fun, fun game. Great use of space. There are like 10 shots across the entire fan layout, yet, it's not crowded. The gold standard for rock pins, IMHO.
