I had to re-rate this pin after playing it quite a bit lately. I really like the theme and originality of this pin. Although a simple fan layout, there are a number of shots that can be made from both flippers. At first I was not a big fan of the wide open playfield but it has grown on me. In my opinion, the only negative is the video modes. The video modes are entertaining at first ("save the girl" might be the best video mode ever); however, after a while they start to get old and slow down the game.

I love this game with all of the colors, toys, and the over all playability. It should be rated higher than it is and will own one someday soon!

Very fun pin for a quick game or two. Cabinet art is some of the best in the business. The ruleset isn't as deep as several others (TAF, TZ, TOTAN for example), but is more along the lines of Scared Stiff. There is enough humor to keep you entertained, and plenty of shots to hit. The toys are completely off the wall (a toilet AND a VW Van in the same game?!).
The voices are ok, however the dialogue sounds is put together like an automated phone message.
If you want bang for the buck, this is a great pin to have. If you want deep rulesets and challenging gameplay, not so much.

This game was fun but way too easy as I was able to beat it without even truly knowing the rules. Interesting theme. I like the artwork.

I simply LOVE the artworks on the cabinet & playfield. great shots and fun music.

Update: after a couple of years in my collection, people who come over to play occasionally tend to prefer JY over the other 5 pinball machines that I own, which speaks for itself. I's a keeper.

I played the one at Joystix. It was well maintained and surprised me by how much fun it was. Also, the rules were easy to understand and I was almost immediatly able to develop strategies, which is not common. I was not a fan of the video mode (and I am usually a video mode fan) but other than that I really have no complaints about the game play; machine has a lot of diversity.

Sorry, but found Junk Yard, Well Junk. :(
Think it lasted 4 months with me and had to go.

Ugh. I would stay away from this one. Tried to get into it a number of times, but the central shot -- the wrecking ball on a chain -- does not feel very satisfying.

They do a great job with the theme on the playfield. It captures the look of a junkyard very well. However, its not a good theme to begin with, and the 'build a machine from junk' goal is contrived and not interesting. Even the junkyard dog can't save it.

Not crazy about this one.
Really liked the wrecking ball at first, now it just seems repetitive. kids would love it I'm sure.
It's actually a really tough game to get the high scores on, with some strategy in collecting 'junk'.
Cool theme, and the animations are great with the Angel and Devil.

I owned a Junkyard for a few months and after about a solid week of playing it, I had beaten it and gotten tired of playing.

The Cons: The fun factor is not enduring after-after you beat Crazy Bob you just keep doing it over and over again. Racking up points is not all that balanced either. it is not too difficult to keep hitting the Spike hole and shooting Spike with the toaster gun and racking up huge points that way over and over.

The Pros: The wrecking ball is pretty cool and adds a different element to the game. The skill shot is not as easy as it looks and challenges you. I love the throw back modes with the Time Machine (actually my favorite part of the game). Some of the plastics are pretty sweet too...the VW bus and toilet.

Overall, this game may work better in a larger collection. I don't have a huge collection so playing it a lot became repetitive after a while. My kids liked it though becasue it was not very challenging.

Hope my opinion adds some value to the rating

Big surprise. Everybody says this game sucks or isn't a keeper or something to that effect. Well I bought one because I got it at a good price, thinking I'd fix it up and sell it in favor of something else. Well to my surprise when I was done fixing it up and shopping it out, I found out it was a VERY fun game and MUCH better then everyone says it is. Don't listen to everyone, at least try this game out.

I added Junk Yard to my collection in May 2012.
I wanted a rock solid game with a WIDE OPEN playfield and Junk Yard certainly fits that bill.

People say it is a little 'shallow' - and it is compared to other DEEP games like TSPP and WH20 - but what an EXCELLENT game Junk Yard is to just chill out on and bash a ball around while nearly every shot is a sweet looooooooooong shot in the game. And there is PLENTY to do for the average joe pinball player, it has 2 main video modes , 3 if you count the mode that references back to Revenge from Mars, it has 4 main game modes along with a final mode and enough to keep you thinking along the way.

I love the way it has 5 tasks to enjoy that relate / are ripped exactly from older machines like CFTBL, RFM and TAF - a VERY unique idea in a VERY individual pinball game.

In my small collection of 6 DMD games - this will be a keeper.

I spent an hour on this game last night. First, the artwork is way above average. I love the cabinet and back-glass. The playfield layout is wide open which isn't for everyone, but I really liked it. The wrecking ball is cool and the sound effects are great. Not top 20 game, but certainly top 40 that I have ever played.

Update: I have now spent many hours on this game and have learned most of the rules. Very cool and underrated game. The "Time Machine" is very cool and takes you to past games. For example, you might play an AFM video mode, TAF and CFTBL modes or a surprise from another game. The artwork, again, is amongst the best in all of pinball.

Seems like a game that'll either "speak" to you and you'll really dig it, or not. For me, not.

good game to play like to play the video mode trying to hit the dog. ramps are fun to hit and fair to hit as well. Getting to outer space is hard but beating it is a blast. Fun game to play

I didn't play this thinking it would get a classic game. I played it hoping I'd find it to be a fun game, with a quirky, fun theme. And that it was. Set your expectations at that level and I think it will live up to them.

The music cought me off guard I was not expecting the mellow mid-eastern sounding tune for the main gameplay. Based on the theme I thought it would be more agressive but somehow it fits and I really like the music.

JY has a unique layout, good flow to the ramps and hitting the hanging captive ball is lots of fun. The upper right pf is wasted space under the bus, seems like they could have fit a few pop bumpers in there which could have been fed by the divertor on the ramp. The rules seem a little multiball heavy but I never got to far in the adventures.

This game could get old in a small collection but in a larger game room it's a nice change of pace.

This is an enjoyable game to play but it does get a little repetitive - hit the wrecking ball, shoot for the jackpot, repeat. The tricky sewer shot for an extra ball makes a change and the ramps do add something a little different. I also think this game suffers from a bit of an identity crisis but the nods to previous games are entertaining.

Love the ramp shots, but other than that, there's a little too much open field on this machine for my taste. When not hitting ramps, I feel as though I'm just banging away. The game could benefit from a few more toys and perhaps some pop bumpers. Not really a game that can hold my attention for a long time.

Overall good game, enjoyed playing it. Crane & toilet are excellent. Theme & all art work great. May increase my rating if I get to play a Junkyard machine with a strong right flipper -- which is needed.

After having this game set up in my house for several months and playing it to death, I realised I was bored with it, but it did take a while... sometimes a pin goes out not because you're bored, but because you want to make space for something else (I could only have 2 set up at a time!!). This was the former reason... still, I recommend it to anyone, the wrecking ball is a great toy, and hitting the jackpot hole at the beack is very satisfying... funny video modes too!
