Although certainly not Steve Richie's first game, or even one of his first good games, in my mind High Speed is the game that solidified him as a design legend. The shots feel great. The rules make sense. The limited speech is used to excellent effect. And, the music and sound effects get the adrenaline pumping. The only downside to the game is the progressive jackpot with carryover from ball to ball, player to player, and game to game until collected. However, there are ROM revisions out there which fix this for tournament play. Speaking of tournament play, this game really is a blast to play competitively when set up a little mean.

I'm a bigger fan of the Getaway, but High Speed is a great, very similar game.

Great theme and art package make this one a winner. It is very fast and fun with a super light show (beacon on the top of the machine looks amazing in a dark room) Music can get repetitive, this is a great value pin.

Good flow expected from Ritchie but not a game I got into. I loved Ritchies later pins like Elvis and AC/DC.

A classic! Fun and engaging, lots of fun. A real rush when you run that red light and the chase begins. The bottom and top bank of targets seem to be the hardest to get. You’re a little at the mercy of the pop bumpers knocking it where it needs to go. The ball can easily drain down the center at a moments notice so it keeps you on your toes. It’s a great one. It’s not quite as fun as it’s sequel, but for its time it’s still very fun and a landmark game for pinball.

Fast machine with overall good layout. Couple stoplight shots lead to ball drains. Jackpot shot only available in multiball. Don’t like that it clears after hit, should be consistent due to difficulty. Not a stand alone machine but really fun with others in collection.

While I love Williams from this period, and I have some friends who swear this is their favourite game, I rank it as good, bordering on excellent. Enjoy playing it, but wouldn't actively look forward to it.... Fun, but not fantastic.

High speed is a great game. It has great artwork and good audio. The only issue is after you play the game for a while, it starts to get very repetitive and not that fun. There is really only one major shot to get. Don't get me wrong the machine is beautiful and plays great.

Classic 80's game. Always enjoy playing it. Challenging multi-ball. Great companion to HS2 Getaway.

Fast and fun game. Love the art and the story behind Steve's design. Good learning curve heavily dependent on timing. Play it over and over again. You'll want to make sure the game is adjusted properly and regularly waxed to keep it fast and the shots clean

Just a fun game. Simple rules. But the return value is huge. And its hard to walk away from. Not to deep. But thats why they made a part 2.

My first pin I bought and we love it! It is still one of, if not, the most fun game in our collection. The kids like it but us parents love it. Gets your heart racing, fun rules and is a blast to play. This is what got me and the family into loving pins

One of my all time favorite classic games...great sound effects, speech, beacon light, ramp shots and hideout multiball features.

This is the game that broke my bank account when it first came out, as I vied to stay on the high score board. It's simpler by modern standards, with the "Getaway" ramp shot being the real money play, along with lit highways. (I owned it but misguidedly sold it when we had to downsize, although I'd frankly played it out by that point.) But in retrospect, this is a really nicely-balanced game, requiring hitting targets, an outhole, ramps, and for high scoring, the inlanes. And when the police radio sound bite comes on, you just get a jones to hit the ramp, and then when the flashing red light comes on on top, it remains a thrill each time to beat the machine and listen to that siren go off. A classic of its era. It's also one of the few non-licensed themed pinball machines with its own sequel, "Getaway", which is also an excellent machine that uses the basic layout and shctick but adds the innovations of dot matrix display and modes. I may yet try to get both of these into my collection again.

This is a basic fun game to play. The game play is fast and can be a real challenge. Its a typical simple rule set game from the 80's.

HS is one of the best pins of all time. Reviews on PInside have a tendency to forget perspective- so I'll give you some... this game came out in 1986, and in '86 when HS dropped, there was nothing, I mean NOTHING like it. IT truly revolutionized pinball. IT was the very first pin that immersed the player into a "story line" to such an extent. THe music, choreographed light show and sounds were also much ahead of its time. Pinball made an upswing in the Late 80's starting with HS and continuing with games like Taxi.. into the Golden Age as we know it .. the Early 90's. Its a very underrated game. Seek out a good example and put some time into it... pretend its 1986 and , yeah... enough said. Great game and in my top 10 of all time.

Although an older game, the theme and gameplay are really fun. I go back and forth on my opinion of liking this or getaway better. I've owned this in the past and would like to have it again someday.

Like this game but not real fond of the sounds. Overall it's a cool game but could get tired of this one after a while.

Very basic rule set. Fun game overall, and definitely a Steve Richie classic. Too easy and simple compared to the best pins of today.

Good but dated since they made a much superior high speed 2. I wouldn't really give this an edge over anyour DVD game as it doesn't really got much to offer in the way of features. Fun to play time to time
