Another Pat Lawlor classic Funhouse is a very fun pinball machine to play. Known for the first pinball machine to have human animation. I love how the theme is integrated into Rudy's head. Rudy gets upset when you don't leave. Hey your having fun. Like many early pinball machines it is limited in depth but what it lacks in depth is makes up for in creativity, ingenuity, and just overall fun. Initially, Its tough to understand what to do but after a few games when you understand the ruleset it becomes extremely fun trying to make those all important shots. These have skyrocketed in price lately which shows in ability to keep up with the times even when newer games like Star Wars and Iron Maiden are coming out. I Highly recommend this game.

This is my all time favorite game! Rudy is the main driver of the game. without Rudy it wouldn't be as nice of a game. Fun! Fun! Fun!

One of my favorite games of all time.
The flow, the sounds, the shots, the pops and of course, Rudy!
Once I'm playing this, I quickly forget that this is a pre-DMD game. Nailing the loop around Rudy's head from the upper flipper repeatedly, then following up with a shot down the trap door or shooting it right down Rudy's throat is has got to be one of the pinnacles of layout design.
I love skill shots too and this game has two plungers, both with skill shots to master.
One of the simple things I love is the sound the pops make. The distinctive "discord" they have is perfect for the slightly dark/bizarro funhouse theme.
And somehow, as simple as it is, Rudy's eyeball animations and callouts never get old to me. Always pestering you enough for that "one more game."
A classic that'd I'd love to own one day.

This is my first real pinball. It was the first one that I paid above my budget. The first one that drew me in and the first one that draws me back! I don’t have a whole lot of experience with different machines but I do know that this machine is something special! Will I have it forever? I don’t know! But it is definitely a machine that drives me crazy and draws me back for one more game! I have bought newer machines that I am very impressed with but when you think how a 28+ year old machine can still stand the test of time, kick my ass, and laugh at me while it’s doing it, is pretty darn cool! Rudy? WTH? This guy(?) is the jacked up cousin of Lady Elaine Fairchilde from Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. They probably hang out in that Museum Go Round on the weekends. They both have a complexion that says, “I got drunk on antifreeze and passed out face down in a snowbank which resulted in frostbite and permanent tissue damage.” All jokes aside, this game was pretty innovative for its time. I think most of this machine’s high rating on Pinside is due to nostalgia and just the sheer number of people that have been exposed to it. It’s a good game, but I don’t consider it a great game. Lighting design, kooky music, sound effects and the big smack talking dummy head give this game most of its charm. Shot variation, mechanics, and ruleset were ahead of its time. I think Funhouse set pinball design in a new direction. Kudos to an innovative, yet creepy machine. It will always hold a place in pinball history.

Classic game by pat lawlor. The Rudy head is the obvious stand-out feature of the game and he’s great. He will taunt you and make funny call outs throughout the game. The layout is good and the rules are pretty good for the time period the game was released. Overall a really solid game.

The audio drives you nuts. Over-all this is looks, great play and classic, classic, classic. That little guy just makes me a bit nerous. Quite simply one of the best or thee best Pinball game ever made. The art, the music, the playfield layout & playability makes this machine very special. You can have a 100 pinball machines, yet you'll always go back and play Funhouse again. It captures a true "Carnival" like atmosphere and when certain things are accomplished; ie. Funhouse closes, Rudy goes to sleep & snores, you manage to get the ball down the trapdoor & Rudy screams, etc. This machine just LIGHTS UP and really comes to life! Lot's to do & very challenging. Rudy can be funny, yet downright creepy. A home game room with Funhouse makes it truly a "Fun House".

the fun factor is lacking. the shots are too few, and the playfield needs to be redone. essentially, it is like a three shot game. as such, it becomes boring quick.
the callouts are not exciting, and there needs to be more interaction on modes.

What a fun pin! Love the layout & the rules on this deck! I just picked this pin up so I'm learning the rule set with each push of the start button. I'll update this rating once I've put more time on this pin, but what a fun layout!

Great game! Lot's of trick shots with unexpected twists.
Was happy to buy one from people who never changed a rubber or bulb. After some TLC it's 100% RUDY again and you better not make this guy angry ;-)

Funhouse is one of my personal favorite pinball machines. I feel it's one of the more difficult, if only because the playfield is packed with objects, particularly on the right side, which really limit your shot options. Some games are wide open except at the very top of the playfield, like Medieval Madness, and this is the opposite. Rudy is simply a riot as a featured toy. His call outs are fun, his eyes are creepy, and hitting him in his face and into his mouth never gets old. I've even had him close his mouth on the ball, stopping the game, twice in my life. This game feels a little primitive, especially with the dots, but it's really a unique, tricky and clever game. Good theme. "I'm watchin' ya!" Over the years, as I learn more about pinball, I reflect back on the pins that got me hooked on pinball. This is the machine, more than any other, that got me into the hobby. In it's own weird, antiquated way, this is a masterpiece. Rudy is simply a marvel of pinball engineering too. Would love to own one someday! Remake!
